Cedars Sinai - Sarcoidosis
Sarcoidosis is a disease in which abnormal collections of inflammatory cells (granulomas) form in many organs of the body. These collections of cells are most often found in the lungs, but granulomas may also form in the lymph nodes, lungs, liver, eyes and skin. More rarely, they can form in the spleen, bones, joints, skeletal muscles, kidneys, heart and nervous system
Today is grateful Thursday and we have so much to be grateful for. One of the greatest blessings is our Sarcoidosis family, the love and support that’s given freely cannot be measured.
Tomorrow……..we’re scheduled for an outpatient surgery and looking at a pretty intense recovery period. The surgeon said 6 to 8 weeks recovery time but due to all of our issues he thinks probably be close to 8 to 12 weeks. It’s a little scary but what surgery isn’t.
As of now we plan to be offline for two weeks resting, recovering and hopefully succeeding with pain management. If we happen to cross your mind in the coming days please whisper a prayer or two.
Sending love always!💜

It’s our Infliximab Infusion day. We’re taking this time to relisten to the segment from our 2024 Sarcoidosis Retreat & Workshop. The theme was “Mental Health while living with a chronic illness” and it was a powerful retreat for healing.

We consider it a blessing and a privilege to host our Sarcoidosis Retreats & Workshops. Our events are a safe place for sharing experiences, forming new friendships and gaining tools to manage life with Sarcoidosis.
We are extremely grateful for Dorothea McGuire and her team with who were able to capture the powerful stories from our Sarcoidosis Warriors. Some just diagnosed all the way to some managing for decades. We were even blessed to have the daughter of a Fallen Snowflake who shared her story.
There were minor technical issues with the camera but we have learned that at times words are more powerful than images. Tune into the YouTube link for this incredible broadcast and soon they will create a short reel showcasing our photos.

I want to thank for this absolutely amazing opportunity to meet people like me. I have learned so much about my disease and that it is ok to take time for myself. You gave me time to sit back and really reflect on the past 4 1/2 years of grief, sadness, and confusion. Spending 3 days with all these beautiful women has showed me even though I am sick, I am not alone. I now have support all over the country. Nothing could ever ruin that. Thank you

A rare manifestation of cricopharyngeal myopathy presenting with dysphagia in sarcoidosis.
Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory granulomatous disease that affects multiple organs in the body; however, dysphagia is a relatively rare manifestation at early stages. Dysphagia in sarcoidosis is attributed to many mechanisms, such as mediastinal lymphadenopathy, esophageal or laryngeal involvement, cranial neuropathy, and brainstem infiltration. In this article, we report an extremely rare case with sarcoidosis who presented with dysphagia due to isolated cricopharyngeal myopathy. The 75-year-old woman presented with slowly progressive swallowing difficulty and videofluorography showed insufficient opening of the upper esophageal sphincter. On presentation, she had no cranial nerve or central nervous system impairments. A cricopharyngeal myotomy was performed, and histopathological study revealed a significant inflammatory change with non-necrotizing granulomas within the muscle tissue. We concluded that this was a very rare case of sarcoidosis presenting with localized cricopharyngeal myopathy. Postoperatively, a contracture of the esophageal entrance was successfully released and the dysphagia was alleviated.
