New Lead Laws in RI – Stronger Penalties and Enforcement

The Rhode Island Attorney General has made enforcement of lead laws a top priority and filed legislation to strengthen and expand them. The Rhode Island General Assembly approved a number of new laws - read all about them on our website (link in the comments) and download the RI Department of Health fact sheet to learn more about current laws in effect through 2023.

You make an appointment to see the property and drive there, full of excitement. When you arrive at the home, you see smokestack.....

Do you use text marketing?

Texting messages to members of the public without their prior written consent led to a class action lawsuit against two brokerages in Florida for violating federal law.

Sending unsolicited commercial texts without consent is a misdemeanor in Rhode Island with a $500 fine per offense- plus they can backfire and annoy your target audience! Rhode Island law allows individuals to text business solicitations/advertising to past clients/customers or people with whom they have an “existing business relationship” as long a clear and easy way to opt out is provided.

The federal TCPA includes additional penalties if texts are made by an automatic system with the capacity to store or produce a phone number using a “random or sequential number generator.”

Four takeaways:
•Ask people to “opt-in” in writing to receive texts before you text them.
•Keep good records of the “opt-ins.”
•Provide text recipients with a way to “opt-out” if they no longer want to receive texts.
•Remove phone numbers promptly after receiving any “opt-out” requests.

To share that joy with current patients, Matt raised more than $1,200 and collected 200 stuffed animals to donate to children at Shriners Hospital.
