The pandemic might have hijacked headlines for now, but climate change is still a huge challenge for humanity. So it’s only fitting that the international World Robot Olympiad theme this year is Climate Squad. At WRO2020-X, our international online event in November, students get to practice skills that can help solve some of humanity’s biggest challenges. Missions for the ‘Regular’ challenges will be announced during the event. Participants then get 24hrs to submit a short video of their robot solving the challenge.
WRO teams can register directly online. Teams can be of 1, 2 or 3 students. WRO Canada will publish an event calendar on wro2020canada.org containing links to all events, and live streams.

Big companies, start-ups, investors and city planners all see the potential in self-driving vehicles. To keep WRO challenges relevant, WRO Association launched Future Engineers, a new category and a pilot competition that's all about autonomous driving.
"It forces the students to do something new and very different from existing WRO categories: They start looking for computer vision and advanced decision making approaches by using machine learning," says game developer Alexander Kolotov.

Nation of Makers virtual conference (NOMCON) is an annual gathering to provide maker leaders an opportunity to learn from and collaborate with peers.
On June 5th, Alex Crooks of WRO USA led a presentation at the Nation of Makers virtual conference. Our premium partner Juniper Networks provided attendees with access to the film ME & MY ROBOT before/after the session.
The focus of the presentation was the landscape of youth robotics competitions and how the maker community could help students develop STEM capabilities. The presentation included clips from the film and a software demonstration where attendees could try programming a virtual robot.
