#FacemaskDC is a month long project carried out by UMD senior, Saba Tshibaka.
The main goal of the website is to give DC residents the opportunity to connect with local mask-makers looking to donate or sell their handmade cloth facemasks.
On November 17th, 2020, for my 22nd birthday, I planned and executed a time-capsule highlighting , a protest that happened on the campus of the University of Maryland on November 17, 2016. This is one of my proudest accomplishments to date at the University of Maryland, something that I will look back on without a doubt for the rest of my life. I’m beyond thankful to even have the opportunity to be in such great company, thank you to everyone that’s ever done anything to support and college student activism.
In honor of the 2020 , i’d like to also note that my leadership experience officially started with me being the captain of the basketball team at Arundel High School c/o 2016 🤣 congratulations to a phenomenal Black Terp ! You’re making history!!! #25 #24

Wow thank you all SO MUCH!!! This wouldn’t have been possible without everyone who shared the website, got masks from local mask makers, and most importantly checked out the site themselves! This means so much to because even 1 person getting access to a quality comfortable mask makes a huge difference. This is organic, I don’t pay for any advertising this is from word-of-mouth and the fact that this is a resource people NEED. Look at all those direct hits 😭 ITS ONLY BEEN 5 DAYS! FacemaskDC.com/

FACEMASKDC
I'm Saba, a senior Economics major at UMD, local ward 5 resident (3rd & RIA), and local small business owner (Rendered Inc.). Last month I was laid off from my job as a server and I started working on a directory project (facemaskdc.com) as an easy way to connect people that need masks and small businesses that pivoted to making masks or individuals looking to donate/sell masks, so we can #FacemaskDC.
I've been making masks for my community and family members for the past month. Through the operations, I noticed two things; 1) There's no accessible way to market your handmade facemask product to the masses (literally every person needs a comfortable mask), and 2) The demand greatly exceeds the supply. So I decided to solve the problem.
The FacemaskDC website will do a number of things:
