Changing Clinical Practice: Discussing the New ABM Mastitis Protocol

Please join Tri-State Breastfeeding Association member
Annie Brown FNP, IBCLC
as she leads us in a discussion about the new - Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Clinical Protocol #36: The Mastitis Spectrum, Revised 2022

The new protocol:
Addresses abscess, blebs, engorgement, galactoceles, mastitis, phlegmons, and "plugged ducts" as all part of the same spectrum of inflammation in the breast.
Reveals that "plugging" doesn't exist. Ducts in the breast are innumerable and interlacing and it is not possible for a single duct to become obstructed with a macroscopic (large) milk "plug".
Suggests that antibiotic use is rarely required to resolve inflammatory mastitis.
If you are a member you will receive the Zoom link a few days before the presentation. Any questions please email [email protected]
