Disorders like postpartum depression are now called Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. So, what does "perinatal" mean?
Perinatal means any time between conception to one year postpartum. Mood and anxiety disorders can happen any time in that period, from conception to pregnancy to up to 12 months postpartum, which highlights the need to have mental health checkups for parents throughout the entire perinatal period.
