We had over 25+ volunteers this past Saturday and we need some more help. Our growing dome is being built the week of June 7th so we have about 3-4 weeks to finish preparing the space for construction. Please share this post, DM us, or register to volunteer at the link in our bio!

We are excited to announce that & has been awarded a Growing Dome. This growing dome will be able to provide produce year round to the community, and add an aesthetic to our grow space that will help Ward 7 increase their appreciation for agriculture. Our main purpose is solving food disparities in communities of color while healing the community through agriculture.

We’d like to thank Growing Spaces for awarding us with this grant and agreeing to build out a 40k+ growing dome right in the middle of Ward 7, Washington, DC. Please share with your family, friends, and community about the first growing dome in D.C. to garner additional support throughout the DMV!!

Dix Street Garden has been a beacon of hope in the Ward 7 community. Our partners (H2H) started this garden with the intention of transforming land and lives. In the midst of COVID-19 the garden suffered, in the latter part of 2020 our team at Black Nickel saw this space as an opportunity to help H2H finish what they started while understanding how to replicate this redevelopment/sustainability model in different communities.

These angles are the front of Dix Street Garden which has over 5000 square feet of grow space.

Happy Black History Month and welcome to a brand new season of The Spooks by the Door. We are starting with two episodes back to back!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In our first episode we sit with two former DC politicos, Amena Ross () and Andrew Lee () of to talk about our new presidential administration and our own Black Agenda. We explore what we want, how to get it and how we can bring black folks from across the aisle to one political path.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In our second Spookspod, Baka sits with wellness instructor and entrepreneur, Brandon Copeland () of to discuss the intersections of identity, wellness and black entrepreneurship. Being an entrepreneur calls into convo many things and your identity shapes how you do business and how your business is principled. As the conversation of new black business heats up, we dive in to what it means to keep it all in balance - for self and for the community.⁣⁣

⁣ is brought to you in partnership with Black Nickel, a DC based non profit supporting educational programming and progressive economic strategies in black communities. Learn more about Black Nickel at BlackNickel.org⁣

Based on USDA’s NASS 2020 statistics, In the last 10 years, new & beginning white farmers make up 95% of all 900k+ U.S. producers. African Americans only make up 1.7% of that market, which makes sense because African Americans make up less than 2% of all farmers in the United States.

The agriculture industry is growing at an alarming rate! Black Nickel needs your support to build out a sustainable model for African American communities. This will provide local farmers with a space to sell their fresh produce instead of being discriminated, which will create a solution for food deserts in African American communities nationwide.
