Are you interested in becoming a professional interpreter? Consider attending our 2023 Community Interpreter Training (CIT) to be held August 21-25 in Washington, D.C. During this 40-hour training, you will learn language conversion, meaning, positioning, modes, roles of the interpreter, ethics, and more. Plus, there will be many opportunities for in-depth practice appropriate to different community settings such as schools, government, and therapy. Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to work for MCS making a base pay of $45 per hour. Fees include $500 tuition plus a $108 registration fee. Last Friday, Last Friday, DC Mayor's Office on African Affairs, in partnership with D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, hosted the Braiding Boot Camp session at Aisha’s Hair Braiding in Ward 4. The purpose of the Boot Camp was to equip aspiring/current LEP/NEP African hair braiding business owners in DC with tools to enhance/establish their business. MCS was proud to provide language access services for this important event!

Selamawit Legesse is a linguist who focuses in Amharic and Tigrinya interpretation and translation. She has more than ten years of legal, medical and community interpretation. As a legal interpreter, she works in DC Superior, Virginia and Maryland courts. She has written and edited articles in different local newspapers and magazines. She has a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from University of Mary Washington and Master's Degree in International Trade and Policy from George Mason University.
