The Toddler classroom grew oyster mushrooms over the last two weeks. Today we made pizzas!
Happy Valentines day! The toddler class celebrated by making chocolate covered strawberries!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Here is a recipe for cranberry relish that is a great starter recipe for young children.
1 bag cranberries
2 Granny Smith apples, sliced
Juice from 1 orange
1/2 cup sugar
Pulse everything in a food processor until mixed and finely chopped. You can drain the excess juice if you’d like.
Saturday was a beautiful day for our first Celebrate Fall Festival! We are so grateful for the wonderful families that are a part of our school community.

Happy first day of Fall! Our toddler community celebrated by making apple juice as the first cooking project of the year.
Cooking with children is beneficial in so many ways. It is an organic sensory experience allowing children to explore through touch, smell, sight, taste and even sound.
Cooking also includes:
Math: "We cut the apple into four parts. One, two, three, four."
Gross motor: "Let's take these apples to the sink to wash them."
Fine motor: "Time to pour the juice into the pitcher!"
Language: "Let's see what ingredients we need to make apple juice. What should we do first?"
We are so excited to welcome children back to District Montessori on Monday. We spent a great week setting up classrooms and preparing for the new year. There are still a few spots available for the 2022-2023 school year.
We spotted something in the garden today!
Spring means dandelions!
What an exciting couple of weeks! We watched our caterpillars become butterflies!
Please join us at District Montessori for our upcoming Open House, on Wednesday, May 18th, from 6-7pm!
We are now enrolling in our full-day classrooms for the 2022-23 school year, beginning in August 2022. We have a few spots left in our full-day toddler classroom (children 2-3 years old) and our primary classroom (children 3-6 years old). Our Montessori school:
Serves children 16 months through kindergarten
Is located in the heart of Capitol Hill
Has thoughtfully arranged classrooms designed to promote discovery, independence, sense of order, and freedom of choice and movement
Employs Montessori-credentialed guides for all age groups
Supports children in a joyful learning environment, with individual and group lessons, freedom to explore, and a peaceful community
Provides monthly parent education nights to support families and caregivers
At our open house, families will have the opportunity to view our classrooms and have questions answered. You may drop in at any time during the open house window. We look forward to meeting you!

Professional Development day is a day for working to better our understanding of child development and Montessori Philosophy and to update our shelves for spring!
Excited to add this beautiful new puzzle to the language shelf in the Toddler room at CHPC this morning. Language for toddlers is all about adding experiences and new vocabulary. Root vegetables are a good combination of the known (carrots) and unknown (turnips and radishes). After spring break we will grow carrots and radishes in a special pot to watch the growth in real time.
The Language shelves in our Primary classroom have materials that begin with oral language than go into writing, reading and parts of speech. We introduce work that goes from concrete to abstract. The materials involve movement and the senses and are made to be comfortable for a child's hands. Each section builds on the section previous which allows for mastery of a concept before adding skills.
Preparing our garden for spring planting!
