Civic Leadership Academy
Developing leadership skills, civic responsibility, & an interest in the democratic process
Learning about the legislature and a seminar about the Supreme Court were the subject of today's tours. The phenomenal opportunities afforded to our group of future leaders included spectating a live oral argument before our nation's highest court and a discussion with the Clerk of the Supreme Court, followed by a tour of the Capitol.
Security studies were the subject of the 27th’s tours, with an incredible opportunity to take a peer inside areas of the Pentagon. Cadets met CMSAF JoAnne S. Bass and Civil Air Patrol’s National Command Team, opportunities seldom afforded to other cadets. Lots more to come!
Debates and diplomacy were on the docket at on the 26th. CLA cadets visited the in Foggy Bottom, learning about foreign policy, diplomacy, and diplomatic security, and participating in an engaging diplomatic simulation.
We're jumping for joy because has begun! Our cadets are getting to know their faculty groups and spent the 25th (today) touring some important monuments in Washington, D.C. and received an informative briefing from Maj David Hill IV, CAP, a former CAP C/Col, who is now employed as a bankruptcy lawyer in New York City. More to come tomorrow!

Civic Leadership Academy will post all of its photos to the photos.cap.gov photo archive website. Until that time, here are a few highlights from Day 2, February 26th! Cadets were treated to a monument tour, a visit to the Air and Space Museum, and an engaging lecture on the judicial system of the United States!
CAP's Civic Leadership Academy began as a National Cadet Special Activity in 2004 under the leadership of then Colonel Amy Courter, CAP. The goal of CLA is to foster cadet officers' civic growth by increasing their: (1) leadership skills; (2) sense of civic responsibility; and (3) overall interest in the democratic process. The academically focused activity culminates with Legislative Day, when cadets meet with their elected leaders on Capital Hill.
