Spoooky siblings Poppy the dinosaur and Diego the skeleton!
Please welcome Michael Smith to the Beasties walking and boarding team! I met Michael years ago as a client and walked his sweet beagle, Sam. Michael has lived on Capitol Hill for 33 years, and recently retired from a career in advertising. He is a lifelong dog aficionado with a particular weakness for droopy-eared beagles. Other hobbies include baking bread and belting out show tunes. We are so excited to have him join us! Michael will be starting walks on Monday August 7th. He is looking forward to meeting all of the dogs in the pack and maybe adding some new pals! He will also be spending time with our home pack as Daycare Supervisor on Saturdays!
Been posting lots over on Insta but here’s a photo dump for ya!
Queso!
Hey! Canine Influenza is hitting DC pretty hard. No cases here reported, no symptoms seem but reports are it’s spreading. Please contact your vet about a vaccine today. We will require a vaccine for all daycare and bostding clients as of February 1, 2023.
Photo dump! It’s been way too long since I posted here…
Morning shenanigans.

Ask DC Council to Pass Historic Animal Welfare Package!
On Monday, February 28, the DC Council’s Judiciary and Public Safety Committee will be holding a public hearing on B24-0560, the Animal Care and Control Omnibus Amendment Act of 2021: https://lims.dccouncil.us/Legislation/B24-0560
This legislation creates a historic opportunity to strengthen protections for the District’s most vulnerable animals and enhance HRA’s ability to respond to animal-related emergencies and crimes. Key provisions of the bill include cracking down on organized dog fighting operations by banning the possession of the tools and implements used to train and conduct dog fighting, prohibiting the painful and harmful declawing of cats unless medically necessary, and promoting adoption of homeless animals by restricting retail pet stores to sell only dogs, cats and turtles that come from an animal shelter or rescue.
✅ Please take two minutes to call your councilmember and ask them to vote YES on B24-0560, the Animal Care and Control Omnibus Amendment Act of 2021.
Find your councilmember by entering your address at: https://dccouncil.us/ You can simply say: “As a constituent, I ask that you support B24-0560, the Animal Care and Control Omnibus Amendment Act, to strengthen the District’s animal cruelty laws, promote adoption of homeless animals, and protect our community and vulnerable animals from harm.”
Buddy day here at Beasties!

Perspective | Carolyn Hax: They said no to hosting a sick dog, and mother-in-law is ‘livid’ Couple says no to hosting sister-in-law's sickly, untrained puppy, and "livid" mother-in-law thinks it's a personal slight.

Willow, the plucky farm cat who interrupted a campaign speech by Jill Biden, has officially joined the first family.
“Willow is settling into the White House with her favorite toys, treats and plenty of room to smell and explore,” a spokesman said.

Sometimes this is right on the money…
Several DC-based dog rescue groups pull from Puerto Rico. Vieques makes it easy for you to bring home a new loved one. I was expecting lots of strays and have yet to meet even one. The locals joke about visitors taking horses home because there are so many and they are everywhere!
The only native mammal in Vieques is a bat but we’ve found lots on non-native beasties. Thousands of horses roam free and the chicken is their very loud squirrel.
