When you tell stories about demons they never fail to make themselves known in the process. Today, at exactly 2PM, the start time of our final performance of Kate Hamill’s DRACULA, the generator that powers our little firehouse died*. Briefly revived, it died again at 2:04PM. The team dove in, and moved to the back up generator, which wasn’t powerful enough for the full lighting rig, but could run sound and a very few static lights. We rolled up the firehouse door, let in nature’s own lighting design to compliment our limited options and got on with the show. It was an outstanding final performance from this intrepid team, not to mention the patient and very enthusiastic audience. Fitting too, that in Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula is finally defeated on November 6th. #rorschachdc #draculart #dctheatre #dramadrama #lightingdesign #solarpower (*yes, it had plenty of gas.
