The Woodley House staff and board of directors are thrilled to announce the completion and opening of our newest building, Terry-Pincus Apartments. Named for our former board member and tireless champion Ann Terry-Pincus, this building in DC's Manor Park neighborhood of Ward 4 offers four spacious shared apartments for 11 Woodley House clients, plus space for 24/7 support staff.
Woodley House had rented apartments in this property since 2010, before purchasing it last year, thanks in part to a loan from Disability Opportunity Fund. We completed an extensive renovation including brand-new HVAC, kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures.
Our team had a wonderful time taking Ann on a recent tour of her namesake residence. Like all Woodley House programs, Terry-Pincus Apartments will provide critical housing and support services for men and women who are recovering from mental health disorders.

Thank you to Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments for sharing the latest annual Point-in-Time count mapping our region's . 2024 marks the second year in a row that the count of unhoused individuals has increased, following a historic low in 2022.
In the District of Columbia, the numbers of unhoused individuals -- both unaccompanied and as part of families -- increased to levels not seen since 2020. A history of mental illness was reported by more than one-third of unaccompanied individuals and nearly 10% of individuals in families.
The District's Continuum of Care -- including Permanent Supportive Housing -- housed nearly 8,000 individuals and more than 7,000 family households in 2023. This is a step in the right direction, but there is much more work to be done!
Woodley House offers case management for Permanent Supportive Housing clients because we know how effective it is in breaking the cycle of chronic homelessness for people facing mental health disorders. We are working to double the annual number of clients served this decade: to more than 600 each year by 2030. Visit our website www.woodleyhouse.org to learn more.

Woodley House mourns the loss of Edith "Edee" Michiko Maeda, longtime Executive Director, who died May 25 after a long illness. She was 95. After Founder Joan Doniger's untimely death in 1972, Edee, who had been co-director since 1960, took the helm for nearly three decades. Under her leadership, the organization expanded from the original residential program (now Valenti House) to include Crossing Place, Holly House, and the Supported Independent Living Program.
Meanwhile yesterday in Kernersville, NC, Woodley House CFO Tyrone Cartwright led a team of virtual 5K participants. Great to have the support from afar!
More great moments from yesterdayβs 5K, including Walnut, the fastest canine on the course.
Such a great time at our first 5K this morning! Hereβs our fabulous CEO .chauvin sending the participants off with the dulcet tones of the cowbell. Thank you to our incredible board members for making today a success!!
