March's birthstone, Aquamarine, is both beautiful and affordable! Aquamarine is most often light in tone and ranges from greenish blue to blue-green, which makes a perfect compliment to any spring and summer wardrobe!

Believed to protect sailors, as well as to guarantee a safe voyage, the serene color of aquamarine is said to cool the temper, allowing the wearer to remain calm and levelheaded. Generally, the larger the stone, the more intense the color.

Earlier this month, Sotheby's unveiled one of the world's rarest gemstones: a round, D colour flawless white diamond weighing an incredible 102.34-carats! Yes, folks, that picture is real!

"At 102.34-carats, this masterpiece of nature is the rarest white diamond ever to come to the market and the largest, round D colour flawless diamond known to man. The only stone of its kind ever graded by the GIA, the diamond has achieved the highest rankings under each of the criteria by which the quality of a stone is judged - 'the four Cs'," Sotheby's statement read.

The diamond can be privately purchased, rather than through the traditional method of auction, Jeweller Magazine reported.

People often ask Jennie Ciccolo to tell the story of how she met her husband, Joe, the love of her long life. Every time she does, she says, “My heart still goes pitter patter.”

“I had trouble breathing. My heart started pounding,” she said. “Oh my God, he was so handsome.” Their hearts still beat a bit faster when they see each other.

Joe, 96, and Jennie Ciccolo, 93, recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary! Joe is a resident of a Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, while Jennie remains at their retirement home. The Ciccolos have four children — Phyllis of Weymouth, Bob of Hingham, Joe of Lake Elmore VT. and Virginia — 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren! Congratulations to this beautiful couple!

Here's a cool fact about the gold medals given out to the winners at the 2018 Winter Olympics: If they were actually made of solid gold, each medal would have a value of nearly $27,000!

However, the medals only contain 6 grams of pure gold. The rest of the 586 gram medal is comprised of 99.9% silver. The medals have not been made of pure gold since the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden.

Historical Diamond Facts: Some of the earliest recorded mentions of diamonds come from ancient Indian literature. Diamonds were associated with purity, cleanliness, and tied to the Hindu deity Indra – King of all Gods. The Sanskrit word for diamond is varja, which translates to “thunderbolt.” So it makes sense, that only the most brilliant, radiant diamonds would suffice.

Perhaps this ideology has made its way into modern culture since some Southeastern Asian cultures focus more on Clarity than the other 3 C’s!

JEWELRY SUPERSTITIONS: The Opal Omen

Perhaps the most popular of all jewelry superstitions, many consider opal a talisman for bad luck to all except those born in October. Some say another exception exists for opal received on special occasions. Like pearls, you should never buy opal for yourself.

However, rumor has it that opal earned its bad reputation over a century ago when quality Australian Opal began to threaten diamond commerce. Diamond traders made up falsehoods about opal to make the stone less desirable! Their efforts may have paid off since we still hear about the opal omen to this day.

A few tips about caring for your pearls:

Fine cultured pearls with lustrous nacre will last for generations if cared for properly. First and foremost, pearls are meant for frequent wear. Wearing them often enhances their luster and color. Don’t store them in a hot, airless environment. They can dry and crack.

Cultured pearls should be kept free of perfumes, cosmetics, perspiration and dirt. It is best to follow the old adage "pearls should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off." After each wearing, wipe pearls with a damp cloth to remove any damaging chemicals.

Sober up with amethyst! Did you know that Ancient Greek mythology tells of amethyst’s powers to hinder intoxication?

The Greeks drank from goblets made of amethyst to help them stay sober. Interestingly enough, amethyst translates to amethystus, which means not intoxicated. One Grecian story explains how Dionysus, god of wine, desired a young mortal named Amethyste. She hoped to remain chaste, so she prayed for protection and was magically transformed into a white slab of quartz. Frustrated and thwarted, Dionysus poured his wine onto the quartz, staining it a deep purple hue. Thus, Amethyst was born!

A heartwarming story of loss and redemption; A grocery clerk in northwest Indiana lost her most precious possessions -- her wedding band and engagement ring. But with a lot of help from her family, and people she didn't even know, she got it back!

Michelle Cronch lost her husband in November. Earlier this month she lost the wedding band and engagement ring he gave her on their wedding day. Cronch lost her rings on New Year’s Day while working as a bagger at the Strack and Van Til grocery store. Cronch’s daughter Dawn Triemstra couldn’t bear to see her mother’s pain so she and her husband Rob took action.

Rob is a Dolton firefighter and composed a Facebook post which quickly went viral and resulted in the rings being found! This isn’t going to keep her from wearing her rings, she said. She got them resized over the weekend to make sure they don’t fall off again!

This is a great reminder to everyone: make sure your rings fit correctly so you don't lose them! We can help you with that!

What is a fancy cut diamond? Despite their exclusive-sounding name, fancy diamond cuts include every shape that is not a round cut. Round cut diamonds have always dominated the market; nearly 80% of diamonds sold are round. Fancy cut diamonds reflect the light differently because of the change in facet style and shape.

Which do you prefer; fancy cut or the classic round?

A couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on this past Christmas Day and still live near the playground where they met when they were six years old!

Alec Naulls, 90, and wife Edna, 89, tied the knot on December 25, 1947. They were 20 and 19 at the time, and had known each other since childhood. The Christmas wedding was one out of necessity: Alec was in the Army and based in Hannover, Germany. The year after they fell in love, Alec was able to secure a ten-day pass over the Christmas period of 1947, and rushed home for the wedding, before returning to the army on New Year's Eve. They have four great-grandchildren, seven grandchildren, and had four children.

Alec attributes the length of their marriage to "an equal partnership." He said: "We have always put each other first. It has been an equal partnership." Congratulations to this beautiful and inspiring couple!
