“I know you’re tired but come, this is the way...
In your light, I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems.
You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.” -Rumi

Meet Adele O’Dowd, a first timer to the and we are obsessed with her work.
“My ceramic work reflects a personal exploration of particles, molecules, organisms, and natural forces, how they interact, and what physics, chemistry, ecology and biology reveals to us about the universe. I am fascinated by the idea that even while we are immersed within it, so much about how the universe functions is nearly invisible to our senses and perception. Even so, we can understand it by observing, studying and contemplating it carefully. I spend a lot of time – maybe a little too much – doing just that.
Making vessels, plates, bowls, cups and jars that are chemically and structurally transformed in an atmospheric wood fired kiln is the perfect medium for me to grapple with the scientific concepts I want to comprehend and with which to express my wonder. I hope that others will use these functional objects in their everyday lives with family and friends, holding them in their hands, and may be inspired to consider all kinds of metamorphoses, systems and relationships, even if only fleetingly. Hi there - we're happy to announce that we are a member of the new DC Makers' Guild! DCMG is non-profit organization that exists to unify the District’s independent maker community, raise awareness of and communicate appreciation for the quality and diversity of the locally-made artisan goods industry, and influence public policy decisions that create a business environment which allows our industry to continue to grow and flourish.
Over the last year, alongside five other local artisans/makers with decades of combined experience in the local marketplace, we established the Guild!
We've developed a 3 year strategic plan which focuses on building a community of local artisan/makers through the three areas of our mission. In 2024 we will set a legislative agenda.
Membership will open in 2024. During 2023, potential members, partners, and individuals interested in learning more can submit their information through our website: dcmakers.org.
We're throwing a summer festival together with the , stay tuned tomorrow for more details!
