The Society for American Archaeology created the Native American Scholarships Fund in 1988 to support Native people interested in studying archaeology.
The Native American Scholarships Fund is an endowment established to foster a sense of shared purpose and positive interaction between archaeologists and Native Americans. Scholarships are open to all Native peoples from anywhere in the Americas, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Indigenous Pacific Islanders. The Grand Canyon Trust is hosting a summer long field-based experiential education series based throughout Navajo and Hopi communities to learn how communities are enacting a "just transition" post-extraction economies. This program is designed specifically to mobilize young Native people from tribal communities and train them on environmental movement making. This program will also provide a stipend to all participants upon completion.
The program will be taking place in Northern Arizona across four weekends this summer. Locations will range from Tuba City to Kykotsmovi Village to Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon. Participants will need to meet us at the designated location each weekend, if you have your own transportation, or meet in Flagstaff to carpool.

August 19-21
September 9-11
Example activities include:
• Hear from Native entrepreneurs
• Help out at the Hopi Tutskwa Permaculture Institute and other farms
• Listen to Indigenous perspectives of the Grand Canyon
• Learn about renewable energy options to power homes on the Navajo Nation

Are you interested in learning skills such as masonry, carpentry, preservation, and more? , in partnership with , is seeking two interested candidates ages 18-30 (or veterans up to 35 years) to participate in this 20-week program. Gain hands-on and specialized skills, as well as professional certifications. A biweekly living allowance is provided, and, if eligible, an Education Award. Applications must be submitted by March 25, 2022.

Time is ticking - you still have one week to apply to the SAA's Native American Scholarships!
The Field Museum in Chicago is hosting a three-day workshop on the care of Native American Plains beadwork. Eight participants will be selected through an application process.
• The workshop will take place at the Field Museum from May 18-20, 2022 to coincide with the re-opening of the Native North American Hall.
• Selected participants will ideally work in the collections of a Native North American Plains Region Tribe or be a member of a Plains Region Tribe enrolled in a museums study program.
• Travel and lodging expenses will be covered.
• Participants must be fully vaccinated/boosted against Covid-19 and wear a face mask while inside the museum.
• Applications are due by February 8, 2022. Late applications will not be considered.
Topics and activities include:
• Identifying glass deterioration on beaded items
• Techniques for slowing glass deterioration
• Techniques for cleaning glass beads
• Archival storage solutions for beaded items
• Participant experiences/concerns for caring for beadwork
• Guided tour of the new Native North American exhibition entitled Native Truths: Our Voices, Our Stories
Timeline:
• January 2022: Call for participants
• February 8, 2022: Application closes/selection of participants
• March 15, 2022: Selected participants announced
• May 18-20, 2022: Workshop at The Field Museum
The workshop is organized by the Field Museum and funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services in partnership with the Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums.
