National Domestic Violence Hotline 05/19/2023

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a month to raise awareness of mental health and to promote the importance of taking care of our mental well-being.

As trauma psychologists, we understand the profound impact that mental health has on every aspect of our lives. Today, we want to shed light on the critical importance of addressing and supporting mental well-being, especially when it comes to those who have experienced trauma. Trauma can lead to a range of symptoms, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health conditions.

We want to emphasize the significance of understanding and compassion. Mental health struggles are not signs of weakness, but rather a reflection of the strength it takes to face and overcome adversity. Let's work together to break the stigma surrounding mental health and create a safe space for open discussions.
To all those who have experienced trauma, we want you to know that you are not alone. There is a network of professionals, support groups, and loved ones who stand ready to offer assistance and guidance. Seek out these resources, and never hesitate to reach out when you need help. Remember, it's okay to ask for support; it's a brave and empowering step towards healing.

Here are some things you can do to take care of your mental health:

• Reach out for help. If you are struggling, don't be afraid to reach out for help from a mental health professional.
• Take care of yourself. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and exercising regularly.
• Connect with others. Spend time with loved ones and build strong social supports.
• Practice self-care. Do things that help you relax and de-stress, such as yoga, meditation, or spending time in nature.

Remember, you are not alone. There is help available. Take care of yourself and your mental health today and every day.
