Our family of choruses–Congressional Chorus, American Youth Chorus (AYC), NorthEast Senior Singers–performed for a sold-out crowd on March 16th at Live at 10th & G. We were honored to have three distinguished guests with us that evening: Ysaye Barnwell, the noted American singer and composer; lawyer Douglas Hallward-Driemeier, who argued question two of the landmark marriage equality case, Obergefell v. Hodges; and Scot Hanna-Weir, who composed our final piece of the evening, The Four Principles of Marriage. The poignant pieces stirred the audience's hearts and left everyone in attendance inspired to cherish their loved ones more deeply.
WE DO is a profound exploration and celebration of love’s universality and transformative power. This music compels us to give more love in our lives, reminding us that love is our most valuable resource and our pathway to fostering compassion.
Congressional Chorus gives the DC premiere of Four Principles of Marriage and The Hope of Lovingby , combining artistic expression with a powerful social message. Hanna-Weir transforms legal text from Obergefell v. Hodges–the landmark Supreme Court decision upholding the right to same-sex marriage–into a poetic libretto, while Runestad weaves together the writings of spiritual mystics, capturing the various ways we respond to and act on our ideas of love.
We asked Cole Jaconski and Thomas Reiker, from the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, to tell us about their love story, and this is what they said. 💞

Congressional Chorus is seeking a part-time Production Assistant for our final two concerts of the season. The ideal candidate would be someone with musical ensemble management and stage manager skills. Our March concert is a traditional choral concert with four ensembles, but our second concert in June is a Cabaret which is much more theatrical and requires someone with that backstage experience.
The main weeks needed are March 11-16 with a concert on March 16 and June 10-15 with two concerts on June 15. Pay is $25/hour with up to 75 hours of work between both concerts.
Please contact me at [email protected] with your resume and cover letter. More details about the position can be found at our website, https://www.congressionalchorus.org/employment
Please feel free to message me or email with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

This February, Congressional Chorus is joining in celebrating African Americans in the Arts. We are spotlighting our senior singer’s program, the NorthEast Senior Singers, and their Profiles in Courage program that celebrates the music, people, and leaders of the Civil Rights Movement’s hallmark event - The March on Washington.
We’ll also get to know NESS’s music director and composer, George Stewart, as he describes his writing process. We are so thankful to have these voices in our organization to highlight and celebrate.
We are so excited to be back for Congressional Chorus rehearsals! Choristers dove into the music for our March concert, We Do.
