April recap 📸

We met some clients in person recently. Amy delivered VNCC merch to two veterans in South Dakota and we visited a veteran in Texas in April.

We assisted Nichole with her claim a few months ago. Nichole, a terminal breast cancer patient, got her benefits approved through the PACT Act, relieving some stress during a tough time for her and her family.

A reporter from a D.C. newspaper (who shall remain nameless 😉) reached out to us a while back. She wanted to feature a veteran who had won a PACT Act claim. We c***ected her with Nichole.

Unfortunately, the reporter wasn’t interested when Nichole mentioned that VNCC helped her for free. Seems like controversial topics get more attention than veteran success stories.

Even so, we’re grateful to do more than just handle claims for our veterans. Every success story is important to us.

The VA has announced the final updates to the VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities (VASRD), specifically the digestive system rating schedule.

These revisions aim to incorporate medical advancements and modern knowledge, ensuring more accurate
compensation for Veterans.

Here are 3️⃣key changes that may affect you based on common conditions we see:

1️⃣ Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): The evaluation criteria has been adjusted to alway be compensable. Veterans may now receive evaluations of 10, 20, or 30 percent based on the
frequency of symptoms. IBS was previously rate at zero, 10, and 30 percent.

2️⃣Hemorrhoids: Mild or moderate cases of hemorrhoids now qualify for a 10 percent evaluation. A mild or moderate evaluation was previously assigned a zero percent rating.

3️⃣GERD: It will now have its own rating criteria, but will be more difficult to receive a compensable rating. The new rating criteria will focus on the condition's permanent impairment of esophageal stricture. Under the new rating schedule, the evaluation does not include the symptoms of GERD, like heartburn, regurgitation, chest pain, difficulty swallowing and so on.

The new rating criteria takes effect on May 19, 2024. Claims
pending on May 19 will be considered under both the old and new rating criteria, with the more favorable one applied to the Veteran.

If you're already rated for these conditions, your current rating is not affected.
