The Autism CARES Act, enacted in 2006, is crucial for addressing Autism. With 1 in 36 children and 4.5 million adults in the U.S. diagnosed, its comprehensive approach is vital. It established programs like the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC) and initiatives within HHS. The House Energy and Commerce Committee approved the bill on June 12th. It now goes to the House floor and then the Senate. Contact your Senators and Representatives to support its reauthorization. Your advocacy can make a difference for millions.
Urgent Call to Reauthorize and Enhance the Autism CARES Act Background: The Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education, and Support (CARES) Act, first enacted in 2006 and signed into law by President George W. NACDD joined a coalition urging Congress to oppose H.J.Res.165 and S.J.Res.96, which would reverse a Department of Education rule protecting against s*x-based discrimination. This rule clarifies protections for LGBTQI+ students, survivors of s*x-based harassment, and pregnant and parenting students. The resolutions threaten these students' rights to a discrimination-free education.

The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD) is delighted to join in celebrating Disability Pride Month. This month is a time to honor the history, achievements, and contributions of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and to reflect on the ongoing journey towards full inclusion and acceptance in all aspects of society.
The theme for this year, “Celebrating Inclusion and Acceptance,” encapsulates the heart of Disability Pride Month. It is a reminder that true pride comes from embracing diversity and fostering environments where everyone can thrive. By celebrating inclusion and acceptance, we affirm the inherent worth of every individual and recognize the unique strengths and perspectives that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities bring to our communities.
Disability Pride Month is not only a celebration but also a time for action. It urges us to challenge stereotypes, dismantle barriers, and promote policies that support accessibility and equality. As we commemorate this month, we are reminded of our shared responsibility to advocate for a world where individuals with developmental disabilities are not just included but valued and respected.
We are inspired by the resilience and determination of the disability community. Their stories of overcoming challenges and breaking new ground serve as powerful reminders of what is possible when inclusion and acceptance are prioritized. Let us use this month to amplify their voices, celebrate their achievements, and commit to building a more inclusive future.
Together, let us celebrate Disability Pride Month with a renewed dedication to fostering inclusion and acceptance in every facet of life.
Our advocacy is needed! Help ensure states follow new federal rules to strengthen HCBS and appoint people with disabilities to Medicaid Beneficiary Advisory Committees. This webinar covers the timeline for improved state Medicaid rules and organizing to improve Medicaid HCBS.
