CPGG: Center for Peace and Global Governance
CPGG is a virtual think tank that pools and proposes principled solutions to global problems through publications, podcasts, lectures, and workshops.
Our world is falling apart at the seams, our leaders are failing us, our societies are fragmenting, our global system of governance is unfit for purpose, and we are letting what we had crafted of a shared system of global ethics to slip away. And yet we can't give up! We must take action to move humanity in a different direction, toward a better world. Join me as I explore some of the systemic weaknesses in our global society and offer practical shifts in our collective perspective and global institutions to meet our global challenges in this conversation with a group of political science students at a liberal arts college in New York State. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGcfDxH12kw
Building a World Federation of States — an Idea Whose Time Has Come Our world is beset by cascading crises. Most of these are collective in nature. Collective problems demand collective solutions and yet we're lacking the col...
When a suspect is accused of murder we have no qualms about requiring their appearance before a court. And, once sentence is passed, we expect that it will be enforced and the perpetrator appropriately punished. It all seems fairly straightforward. So, why do we struggle so mightily when a nation flagrantly flouts international laws wreaking havoc, raining down death and destruction and incalculable suffering on the innocent — all with impunity? Why is the World Court incapable of stepping in and decisively maintaining or restoring peace? The short answer is because it suffers from some severe defects that have undermined its efficacy. To understand these defects and the fixes that are necessary to make the Court fit-for-purpose to serve humanity's needs and meet its challenges in the 21st Century and beyond, I invite you to read this Op-Ed piece that has appeared in a number of media publications in the U.S. Please share it widely.
Fixing Our Broken International System of Justice If we are serious about ending war, and about resolving our intra-state disputes amicably, it is high time that we reform our international system of justice and the rules governing it.
"ARE WE SLEEPWALKING TO NUCLEAR WAR?" is the title of an Opinion piece I wrote a couple of days ago that's being picked up in media publications in states around U.S. We need to raise awareness about the existential threat of nuclear war that faces us all and which, combined with climate change, has the power to wreak unimaginable horrors upon us, our children, and grandchildren. The goal is to get us to stop before it's too late, reflect, reverse course, and take an alternative new road to a better world: that path requires us to design a global system of governance that is fit-for-purpose for humanity as it emerges from immaturity and approaches adulthood. I hope you'll read it and share it widely. hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag hashtag
Are We Sleepwalking to Nuclear War? The threat of nuclear war is at the highest level it has been since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. However, there is a crucial difference; in 1962, most of

If we are to successfully build a better world, it is crucial that we dispense with the outworn belief that the ends justify the means and strive to ensure that the means are always as worthy as the ends. This principle applies in all spheres of life including all levels of governance and business. Join me as we explore past and present examples of these principles at play. And please share this link generously.
Re Imagining Our World Episode 43 Why is it so crucial that the means we employ be as worthy as the ends we seek? If we are to successfully build a better world, a more peaceful and equitable...
We're all familiar with the old saying "The ends justify the means." Yet our blind acceptance and application of this false assumption has come at an untenable cost to human society. If we truly want to build a better world, we must be willing to relinquish it and replace it with a more empowering principle , namely that the means must be as worthy as the ends. Join me as we explore this topic in detail using fascinating past and current events to guide us.
There is no doubt that humanity has been making some very poor choices that are buffeting our world and disrupting its equilibrium. Worse than that, they have resulted in excruciating suffering for large swathes of humanity. But what if there were hidden opportunities to be found in this suffering so that it will not have been for naught? Join us as we explore this topic in this video and feel free to share this link widely
Finding Meaning and Opportunity in Our Global Suffering There is an old adage that nothing in life has meaning until we assign it meaning: usually choosing to judge it as having been good or bad. What if we were t...
It's time to reimagine our notions of power, authority, and leadership. There will be 70 national elections held worldwide in 2024 that have the potential to change the social fabric of our global society for good or for ill. We, the people of the world, carry a huge responsibility to choose our leaders well - leaders that are fit to meet the needs and challenges of this age. To do that we must first change the way we think of the concepts of power, authority, and leadership.
Why does peace seem so elusive? What if we're simply misdiagnosing the causes of conflict and applying the wrong remedies to heal humanity from the scourge of war, conflict, and disunity and attain a lasting peace? Join me to explore a radical new diagnosis and some untried but potentially astoundingly effective remedies.
What if globalization were simply the tangible expression of humanity's journey towards maturity? What if we could accept that it has both positive and negative impacts, learning to embrace and maintain its positive effects while also devising strategies and adopting new behaviors to manage and mitigate the risks it creates? Join me in this conversation as we explore some of these ideas together.
Do you yearn to have a life that is BOTH successful and meaningful? Do you wish you could rid yourself of the scourge of comparison and competition? What if there is a key to achieving all of this? If our world's nuclear non-proliferation regime were a dam holding back the cascading waters of nuclear weapons' proliferation, it now suffers from such severe breaches and defects that it stands dangerously close to collapse with catastrophic results for the human race that include nuclear war. In this video I attempt to identify the most significant breaches and propose ways to plug them before it's too late.
