Beach Finds

We’re headed back to the Outer Banks today. Mom's Sweet Shop in Kill Devil Hills (just before mile post 6 at the corner of E Arch St & the Bypass Rd) offers Acai Bowls, Smoothies, Milkshakes and Soft Ice Cream (as well as some local merchandise). The shop is open until 8pm (closed Sundays and Mondays) but the back window stays open until 10pm so that you can easily grab some yummy dessert. Don’t forget to check out the soft ice cream flavor of the day.

Office Closure

Paradigm Pets

Meet T4T, also known as Buddy! Buddy lives at Meridian Mt Vernon and is quite a fashion-forward dog who loves to flaunt his sweater. His favorite pastime? Watching television, of course! You'll often find Buddy cozied up on the couch next to the screen. With his unique personality, Buddy never fails to entertain. We're delighted to share his story!

Tips for the DC Newbie from a DC Newbie

Exploring the DMV can lead to some urgent restroom needs, especially when you're out and about on day trips. Here’s are some spots I found helpful when navigating those situations:

1.) Grocery Stores: Don’t overlook them—they often have restrooms available. 🛒
2.) Restaurants & Fast-Food Places: Most will have restrooms for “customers only,” but in my experience, they typically don’t mind if you ask. I’ve gone into an empty Starbucks, asked for the bathroom code, and gone without any trouble (no purchase). Of course you don’t have to do that, but with the abundance of food and drink spots, you know a restroom is nearby and it can be worth a try.
3.) Porta Potties: You’ll find these in popular areas, like on the walk from the White House to the Washington Monument. Maybe not a favorite but an option, nonetheless. 🚾
4.) Shopping Malls: There are plenty of malls scattered across the DMV and bathrooms will usually be near the entrances. 🏬
5.) Smithsonian Museums: Museums are a good bet for easily accessible restrooms along with their free entry.

There are also bathrooms at a handful of metro stations. These are just some options that I have explored. Try to keep them in mind the next time you’re out and stay comfortable while you explore!

These are just some of the staggering statistics relative to Food Insecurity in the U.S. and are reasons why we partner with Move for Hunger and host a number of food drives each year. We hope that you will join us in participating in this year’s Hunger Action Month Food Drive benefitting local food banks. Participation is easy. Just grab a bag from the Concierge (or use your own), fill it with non-perishable food items and return it to the Concierge by September 30th.

DC JazzFest’s 20th anniversary celebration, begins August 28th, will be the biggest ever! Enjoy stellar performances by rising stars and world-renowned artists at venues across Washington, DC. The Wharf is only 15-20 mins from Mt. Vernon Triangle!

🍭 The Capital Candy Jar has been a local gem to DC residents and visitors for the last six years, and you can find freshly made, gourmet candies there daily. 🍬 This small business was opened by Dave Burton, who is passionate about sharing his homemade confections with the public, after years of support from his friends and family that he would gift his goods to. Not only can you get something for yourself, but their website also offers corporate ordering so you can order treats for your office!

Meet Luna! Luna, a 7-year-old American Bulldog mix, lives at Meridian at Courthouse. Here, she enjoys cozy naps under a blanket, strolling through the Farmers Market, and greeting new friends. Her obsession with lambchop toys often finds her with up to five in her possession at once! Luna will always make a stop by the front desk to say hi. We've had a blast getting to know her! Tips for the DC Newbie from a DC Newbie

Let’s talk about the practical essentials of city living—specifically, the value of a good tote or reusable bag. These are more than just a trend; they’re incredibly handy for city life. Whether you’re heading out for a casual day or running errands, you'll likely need the essentials. Personally, I tend to bring my water bottle, keys, wallet, hand sanitizer, lip balm, earbuds, and maybe even a camera out with me. That’s a lot to juggle, but a tote bag makes it easy to carry and keeps everything accessible.

Plus, totes are perfect for groceries. 🛒 They hold more than paper or plastic bags, are easier to carry, and are more sustainable. In DC, many grocery stores charge extra for single-use bags, so using your own can save you some money. Trust me, as someone who only recently made the switch, I should have embraced reusable bags sooner.
