We had a productive day at Likoni Primary School, providing essential healthcare services to over five hundred residents in the informal settlement of Likoni, located just off the coast of Mombasa Island.

Our ongoing Community Medical Clinics offer a wide range of services, including general medical check-ups, dental care, ENT, ophthalmology, nutritional care, and health education. These clinics have significantly impacted many lives, ensuring residents receive necessary healthcare.

We are immensely grateful to the dedicated professionals and volunteers who selflessly devoted their time and expertise to this cause. Together, we are building a healthier, more resilient future, one community at a time.

Over the weekend, we hosted our latest group of interns in our most popular adventure travel program in East Africa—the Masai Mara Game Reserve and Nairobi Overnight Trek. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity began in Kenya’s capital, where the interns learned about elephant conservation at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage and experienced the natural beauty of Nairobi National Park.

Our interns also interacted with giraffes at the Giraffe Center, home of the world-famous Giraffe Manor. After an overnight stay in Nairobi, they went on a full-day game drive in the Mara, in search of Africa’s Big Five. The trip also included visiting a Masai village, offering a blend of adventure and education. This transformative experience left them with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of conservation efforts and an appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of the Masai people.

As Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close, we would like to highlight the importance of recognizing and addressing mental health challenges, which often go unnoticed. This year’s theme, “Tools to Thrive,” focuses on practical strategies individuals can use to improve their mental well-being.

In the spirit of this theme, we organized our most recent Mental Health Awareness Clinic at Changamwe Secondary School in Mombasa, Kenya. Our team of psychologists and interns engaged students in discussions about stress management and coping with peer pressure, aiming to provide practical tools and resources to help them navigate their mental health journeys effectively.

Together, we envision a future where mental health is not only acknowledged but actively supported, particularly in underserved communities.

Our inaugural session was at Mekatilili wa Menza Secondary School in the Buxton neighborhood of Mombasa, Kenya. Our interns led an engaging and informative discussion with the young girls on menstrual hygiene and women’s reproductive health - which remains a taboo topic in many parts of Kenya. This stigma hampers open conversations and proper education, perpetuating myths, misconceptions, and feelings of shame. During the session, we covered the basics of women’s reproductive health and the importance of menstrual hygiene and provided practical guidance. We concluded by distributing sanitary towels to each girl in attendance, ensuring they have the resources needed for proper menstrual care.
