US JET Alumni Association (USJETAA) has launched their Tayo-sei Group Mentorship Program for 2024 Departing JETs! The program will take place online with the most activity anticipated leading up to departures (June, July, and August). USJETAA has a group of about 40 JET alumni who are serving as sempai mentors to share their lived experiences in Japan on JET.
They have identified several special interest groups (via their mentors) and kohai participants can be a part of more than one group. This will be done online via USJETAA's Discord Server and monthly Zoom face-to-face meetings, so it is accessible to all departing JETs. Departing JETs from other countries are welcome to join, but the Zoom meetings will accommodate U.S. time zones.
The program is run in partnership with JETAA USA - JET Program Alumni Association and with funding support from the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission. More information about the program and on how to get involved can be found here: https://www.usjetaa.org/tayosei-mentorship

US JET Alumni Association's (USJETAA) JETAA Chapter Grant Program is currently accepting applications! The JETAA Chapter Grant Program funds JETAA chapters and sub-chapters so they can host innovative activities that further US-Japan relations at the grassroots level. The initiative was launched in 2016 as part of a partnership between Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA and USJETAA to strengthen the bilateral US-Japan relationship. Each year, mini-grants (typically ranging from $1,500 to $3,500) are awarded on a competitive basis to JETAA chapters and sub-chapters that are proposing programming with the potential to highlight and advance the bilateral relationship in their local communities. The grant program is also intended to help chapters strengthen their overall institutional capacity and elevate their leadership role in their local US-Japan community. Chapter Grant applications are currently open on a rolling basis through October 1, 2024. USJETAA will close applications once all funding earmarked for this program has been allocated to successful chapters.
For more information about the grant program and on how to apply, please click here: https://www.usjetaa.org/jetaa-chapter-grants

On April 26, JETs@State and JETAADC held a joint JET alumni speaker panel at the U.S. Department of State. Roughly 40 attendees gathered to hear from three talented JET alumni advancing U.S.-Japan relations in the U.S. Foreign Service – Katherine “Kemy” Monahan, Andrew Lee, and Ben Parisi. They spoke about their experiences on JET and how that led them to careers in diplomacy. Several recently returned JET alumni also had the opportunity to ask questions and advice from the panelists. Additionally, participants networked with other JET alumni and Friends of JET working at the State Department. We would like to sincerely thank Ari Wyckoff (Iwate, 2002-2003) and all of the JETs@State volunteers for their time and support in making this a successful collaboration!
