If you want your website to look , one of the easiest places to start is with your photos. They can be overlooked when you’re planning for your site, but think about it. What beautiful website (that uses photos as opposed to graphics) have you ever seen with mediocre photos.
A lot of the problem stems from people looking at the resolution of their smartphone and thinking that their photos are going to be just as good as what they might pay someone else to take. I’ve got news for you. There’s a reason they get paid to do it, and you don’t.
Unless you are truly one of those smartphone photographers that take the kind of photos that Apple puts in their marketing, you’re going to get so much more use, function, style and beauty from hiring someone to do a session with you. Get some headshots, some action shots, background images and whatever else you need done right the first time.
And I want to be clear, photos alone won’t make your website instantly beautiful, you still need someone to arrange them in an attractive and engaging manner, but page design can’t make up for blurry, grainy, small, blown out or dark photos.
One trap I find website owners falling into no matter their brand is having tiny/illegible buttons. If they are hard to find and hard to click on, people are less likely to click on them, which is kind of… the whole point of having buttons. And quite often, a button that seems big enough on desktop is small on mobile. THIS CAN AFFECT YOUR GOOGLE RANKING. ��Google wants sites that have easy to click on areas, because, well, users want easy to click on areas. So make sure you buttons are big and bold (in spirit, not necessarily font) and have plenty of padding to really entice the user to click on them.
If you need all these things... that’s a new website. It doesn’t matter that it’s on the same domain, if everything is different, it’s new. That’s like tearing down your house, building a completely different one and saying that it’s the same house because the plot of land is the same.
TIME. We all could use more of it, and for me, it’s actually what I sell. This is 2021. There are ways for businesses to build their own site. They can make sites that look good on every single device. They can make sites that are really fast. They can make sites that have great SEO. But it takes time.��I always say that I could become a rocket scientist if I had enough time, because on some level that is true. Time is the secret ingredient to being able to do almost anything ourselves. It’s no different with your website. If you have the time to invest in learning great page layout, how to convert visitors into customers, how to make your site fast on every device and look good while doing so, then congrats! However, if you don’t have the time to learn how to make your website as great as possible, or your time could be better spent on something else (like what your business provides to customers), that’s where I can help.�� music credit to The Rolling Stones
