The oldest structure in Waterbury's city center – the Miller & Peck building – has been purchased, with plans to transform it into a five-story complex featuring retail space and apartments. Joseph Iannelli, the Fairfield-based developer who purchased the property, said, "Waterbury I feel is on the rise and is booming. I am beyond excited." One week away! On Saturday, August 3, the Brass City Jazz Fest returns to downtown Waterbury, bringing together on one stage award winning contemporary jazz artists from across the country and region.
This year’s Brass City Jazz Fest, now in its 5th edition, features an all-star lineup of jazz musicians, including Billboard #1 and 2023 Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year, saxophonist Vincent Ingala; Barry Eastmond, a legendary producer, songwriter, and #1 hitmaker, who will be performing with friends; Ragan Whiteside, a jazz flutist who is a Billboard #1 and Best Contemporary Jazz Artist Award Winner and 2023 NAACP Image Award Nominee; and JJ Sansaverino, a prolific guitarist with multiple Billboard #1 hits and a dynamic stage presence. The festival will also feature a variety of food options, the 203 Mobile Bar, and business vendors.
The free, all-day contemporary jazz festival runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Waterbury’s Library Park. Plenty of free parking is available in the downtown area. The event kicks off at 2 p.m. followed by JJ Sansaverino at 2:15 p.m.; Barry Eastmond and special guests at 4:15 p.m.; Ragan Whiteside at 6:15 p.m.; and Vincent Ingala at 8:15 p.m.
The Brass City Jazz Fest is hosted and produced by Waterbury’s own Event Chairman Al Taylor of ACT Jams Productions and the Assistant Programmer of SmoothJazz CD 101.9 FM New York in conjunction with the downtown advocacy organization Main Street Waterbury. Taylor is also the curator of “The Groove Show,” a weekly contemporary jazz syndicated radio show.
