😽Wanna know who had a vet visit and got blood work done today? Zeke! 😻 He was such a good boy for the vet, not even a grumble when she drew his blood!

We got the results and (as we assumed due to the rough life he had been living fending for himself) he is: FIV positive ➕
FeLV Negative. ➖

❓What does that mean? ❓
It means Zeke has been exposed to the virus at some point during his time on the streets and that his immune system may be weaker than a cat who hasn't been exposed.
🐾 Cats with FIV can easily live long, happy lives and may never even show any clinical signs of FIV.

🙀People often get FIV and FeLV confused with each other. While they are tested for together during blood work, they are two separate viruses, with important differences. The main one being how they're spread 🦠

FIV is NOT spread through saliva or mucus and FeLV IS, meaning that FeLV cats should not cohabitate with cats who don't have the virus. Cats with FIV (like Zeke) CAN live with other cats, even those who don't have FIV, since it's mainly only spread through deep bite wounds.

🐈 Zeke will be going up for adoption this weekend! Please keep an eye out for our post about him (and Comet) and spread the word about him and other FIV positive cats!

💚It's $5 Friday and the little Muffin below wants to know if you can help? 💜
As you may have guessed, TNR can be very expensive, but if everyone who follows our page donated $5 (or really any amount!) we could help even more kitties and kittens like her! Can't donate? That's ok, we understand 😽 Please help us by sharing our posts/page to spread the word🩵 Thank you and have a purrrfect Friday!

😺 Handsome fella, ☄️ Comet will be going up for adoption soon! He's neutered, UTD on his vaccinations for Rabies and FVRCP, ear tipped and he's FIV/FELV negative. He'd do best on a home without other cats, dogs are unknown. Stay tuned for more information on him and how to apply if you're interested! 🩵

🐈A little update on the 'eye infection crew'.
Unfortunately, the only survivor of that litter of kittens is the sweet, grey boy (being goofy while I clean 🤣) in the video below. 😿 Although we're upset about the loss of his siblings, we're extremely grateful that he pulled through. He did become ill, but managed to get through it with lots of meds, fluids and syringe feedings. 🙏 Mama has done well too. She was spayed, vaccinated and adopted into a very loving home 🩷

Panleukopenia is no joke. It hits hard and fast, making it incredibly dangerous and all the more reason to keep your pets up to date on their vaccinations. 😺

06/29/2024

Did you know we now have a donation bin at Pet Supplies Plus in Groton? 😸 We feed a LOT of feral and homeless kitties and can't even begin to explain how helpful this is 🩷 Thank you to them and to everyone who's donated so far, we appreciate it so much! 🙏

06/21/2024

Look at this gorgeous girl 😍 She's one of FIVE kitties we took for spay/neuter this past week. 🎉 No more heats, no more babies, reduced risk of cancer, reduced urge to roam and an overall brighter future for her and the others! 💙 Please always spay and neuter your pets! 🐕 🐈

Update on this big guy! Look how great he's healing up 🧡😻 He absolutely LOVES attention and being pet, meowing his head off for scritches whenever possible. He also loves food too, of course 😹 We're hoping with a bit more time to heal and some additional vetting, he'll be ready to find a home of his own. In the meantime, he'll need a name. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, please feel free to share them! 😺

Remember the orange guy who went in for TNR? 🧡 Well, it turns out he's not feral .... At all.... 😥 We couldn't send him back outside knowing he wasn't feral and obviously didn't handle his location well, so now he's with us and safe. He's a sad, scared boy, but we hope with time he'll learn that not all humans are bad and find a good home 🙏 He does love butt pets and taking, so that's a good sign so far.

🩷HUGE thank you to Kathleen Branchaud for the crate for him and the donation of supplies! Thank you so much! 😊

🎉 Things have been so busy that we almost forgot to introduce the new admissions from this Monday 🙀 These spittin' kittens were born to a feral mama in Lisbon who we've TNR'd and is in great hands with her kind-hearted feeder 🩵 Now that the babies are old enough, we're going to work on socializing them so that they can eventually find the perfect homes 😻

Thank you to their amazing feeder and his equally fantastic family for catching these babies so swiftly! 😍

If anyone would like to help support these babies or any of the cats and kittens in our care, you can find our wishlists here, thank you!:

😿An update on the family of kitties with eye infections.
Unfortunately, they have panleukopenia (feline distemper) and even with treatment, the white kitten and tuxedo kitten have passed 😫. Mama is sick, but slowly improving and the two grey kittens currently do not have any symptoms. Fingers crossed 🤞 that these three pull through so that they can move on to find their own forever families.

Panleukopenia is incredibly contagious and unfortunately, the survival rate for kittens is very low. Adult cats tend to recover with proper care and early treatment. The best way to avoid this terrible virus is to vaccinate your cats and keep them up to date with the FVRCP vaccine.

Please keep the remainder of this family in your thoughts and we'll update as things progress 🩷

Photos from Feral Cats Count's post 06/02/2024

😻What a difference! These littles have made significant progress with their eye infections after 1 week of meds 🎉 A little longer and their eyes should be fully cleared up. Mama is also doing well too 🩵Unfortunately, the white kitten has been experiencing some nausea, so he's getting meds for that as well as Sub-Q fluids to get him over the hump.🤞Fingers crossed for this little family!

😿Check out this poor guy who was caught this morning for TNR🙏 he's obviously had it rough out there. He'll be seen by a vet for his injuries and be neutered too, of course. Thank you to Ashley Parker for all that you've done for him!

New Admissions🩵

Although our main focus is TNR, it is 'kitten season' and with shelters everywhere bursting at the seams, we couldn't turn this little family away when we were asked for help. 😩 💔

As you can see, their eyes are pretty rough/swollen, but they were all cleaned up and began their treatment upon arrival. Thank you to Ky and Anne from Paws Cat Shelter CT for the continued advice and support!

We'll be posting about their progress as we go. If you'd like to help with these little ones or any of the cats we help, you can find our updated Amazon wishlist here:

🧡Have you ever seen a cat with an ear like this? That's called an ear tip and it's a universal sign that they've been spayed/neutered and vaccinated! 😻
Don't worry, the ear tip is done while the cat is under anesthesia so it's completely painless. 😽

05/18/2024

There's no such thing as a 'free' kitten 🐈 or puppy 🐕. When you adopt babies that haven't been vetted prior, you're not only likely to end up spending more than you would to adopt from a shelter, but you run the risk of heartbreak if the kitten or pup has an underlying illness. 🙀
So while the around $200 adoption fee may seem daunting, it's well worth it if you consider everything that's gone into ensuring the health of your new potential family member. 💙

05/12/2024

😽No more babies for this gorgeous girl 💗 she's one of the kitties that were spayed (vaccinated) and released over the past week. Shout-out to her caretakers for being so diligent and to Barbara Kil for securing appointments and transporting! 🙏 It takes a village!

👏 Thank you to Friends of Feral Felines SECT for taking on the hissy family and continuing their care! We'll miss them all, but we know that they're in great hands with them 😻 please go follow their progress on their page and give them some support! 🩵

As for us, we're going to be focusing on some orphaned cuties (one pictured below) and we'll be trapping in Lisbon this week! Hoping to catch some feral girls who've been evading us for a while now. Wish us luck, we're gonna need it with those trap savvy ladies!

😻Angry Kitten Alert😻

Kittens know very early how to hiss, puff up, swat and growl in order to protect themselves. So how do we socialize angry babies? With lots of love, patience and treats, of course! It takes time, but it's so worth it 🩵 This baby below is making great progress, no longer trying to bite, only hissing to express her frustration 🐱
