We’re less than a week out from the premier education event in the HME industry: Heartland Conference!

At VGM, we’re excited to kick off Pride Month with a companywide celebration! Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Young Professionals committees have come together to create an inclusive and vibrant event on June 6 to honor diversity, inclusion, and love. Employee owners will enjoy various activities to express themselves as well as receive resources on allyship. To mark the start of Pride Month, VGM will be lighting our building in various colors throughout the day.

In Q1, VGM’s Community Giving Foundation provided support for organizations with goals revolving around accessibility for children of all ages and abilities. Earlier this month, we highlighted Kindness Square Inclusive Playground. Today, we’d like to highlight the All-Play Ballpark located in Parkersburg, Iowa.

After the F5 tornado in Parkersburg in 2008, one of the reconstruction efforts for the town was to raise funds and revamp the youth sports facility. Thanks to the help of the Cedar Valley community, the All-Play Ballpark officially opened and held its first ballgame in 2018. The All-Play Ballpark offers three youth soccer fields, three little league ball diamonds, a senior league baseball field, and the Cedar Valley’s first inclusive Miracle League ball diamond—home of the Cedar Valley Miracle League.

VGM’s donation of $10,000 went towards the new pickleball courts at the All-Play Ballpark.

Before starting at VGM, Samanatha Doering, Corporate Communications & Events, felt what many working parents in the Cedar Valley were going through: struggles finding child care. She figured by living in a larger city, finding child care for her 19-month-old son Weston would’ve been much easier. For Samantha, however, everywhere she called had a waitlist, with a few places having waits up to two years. That’s when she heard about VGM opening a child care center for working parents in the company.

“The child care center was one of the main reasons VGM appealed to me,” said Samantha. Once she started at VGM, she said enrolling couldn’t have been simpler. And it’s had positive impacts on not just her and her husband, but Weston as well. Though initially a rough transition for Weston, Samantha notices that he is now a much more social butterfly. He doesn’t need to be always attached to his mom, talks and plays more, and has way more energy.

This Memorial Day, we will be lighting our building red, white, and blue to honor the brave individuals who have fallen to protect our country and our freedom.

More high school seniors celebrated their graduations this week! Waterloo West and Waterloo East donned their cap and gown on May 21 and May 22, respectively. And tomorrow, Waverly-Shell Rock and Cedar Falls will celebrate their big day.

In Q1, VGM’s Community Giving Foundation provided support for organizations with goals revolving around accessibility for children of all ages and abilities. One of these organizations was Kindness Square, Chickasaw County’s only inclusive playground, which will replace the deteriorating equipment at Runion Park. Inclusive parks not only allow children of all abilities to play together, but they allow adults of all ages and abilities to actively engage with children in their care. Kindness Square Inclusive Playground will offer just the right level of challenges for all abilities to have the chance to succeed and have fun. It’s a place where all children and adults can interact together and do what everyone wants to do: PLAY!

VGM’s donation to Kindness Square totaled $10,000.

May is recognized each year as Mental Health Awareness Month. And tonight, VGM will be lighting our building green in observance.

The health of our employee owners at VGM is of the utmost importance, and that includes their mental health. At VGM, our Human Resources team are all certified in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). And through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), our employee owners have access to a wide array of benefits, including telehealth visits with certified mental health counselors.

It was a bowling bonanza for VGM employee owners last weekend. VGM’s Events team coordinated a massive undertaking in setting up a bowling event for not just our employee owners in the Cedar Valley, but also in Des Moines (where Two Rivers Marketing is located), and our Fulfillment warehouses throughout the country in Arizona, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania. VGM is proud to introduce VGM’s new Wellness Coordinator, Cara Hintz, who started with VGM a month ago today! She is a certified wellness coach, and for the last 10 years has helped people focus on their overall wellness, movement, and energy.

Day to day, she will oversee corporate wellness initiatives and is available for calls and meetings with employee owners wanting to discuss their personal wellness journey. VGM has once again been named one of the Best Places for Working Parents! VGM has made some big changes in the last year. Most notably, our on-site child care center opened in November 2023, alleviating the stress for our employees trying to find child care for their young ones.

To mark the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force, VGM will light our building blue to signify their centennial. VGM has our own Canadian ties with VGM Canada based out of Burlington, Ontario. VGM Canada is a dedicated member service organization focused on providing supplies and medical equipment to providers across Canada. They also hold the Canadian Seating & Mobility Conference each year, this year taking place Sept. 10-11 in Toronto, Ontario.
