Somatics was founded by Thomas Hanna. He was a yoga teacher who saw many students plateau or give up yoga due to chronically held muscle tension and pain. He created a series of small, subtle movements which may usher the soma [body] to release chronically held muscle tension and pain. Somatic movements blended with yoga is a unique practice allowing the soma feel SAFE which may open pathways for new ways of being and patterning as those tensions and traumas are let go.

The class focuses on breath awareness and subtle movements improving self-awareness and overall function of the muscles, joints and our nervous system. SomaYoga is a great way to learn how to balance effort and ease all while learning how to rest and restore our often tired somas. Skills learned in SomaYoga may help the demands of everyday living to high level performance.

This class is appropriate for all levels and no prior yoga experience is needed. Come join a class to see and feel how great it is to be in your soma!

Last Friday we soaked up the sun for a GREAT CAUSE with our friends at Lush Family Dental for their 4th Annual Charity Golf Outing! ⛳️🏌‍♂️🤝

This year they chose all proceeds to benefit Des Moines' oldest locally based charity: Orchard Place. They provide mental health treatment and expertise to Iowa youth, and we are incredibly grateful to be a part in supporting that mission! 🙏

A note from Kara:

I am a lawyer by day and a yogi all the time! I live in Urbandale with my husband of over 30 years. We have a 25-year old son who lives in Ohio. My husband purchased my first month of yoga classes (at this very location) for me as a gift, and from my first class, I was all in. I have always enjoyed fitness, specifically running, but yoga provides me an escape from competition and the stress of work. Yoga has taught me to let go, to respond rather than to react, and to breathe, which has carried over into my personal life and work life. When I’m not practicing law or practicing yoga, I enjoy running, crosswords, audiobooks, and fixing things around the house.

I look forward to guiding you toward greater strength, flexibility, and inner peace.

This weeks Fit and Fierce Friends Kids Kamp was an amazing group of GIRL POWER!!!! 🎉👭🧘‍♀️💪🏽

We continued this week with our 4 day, 90 minute [1:30-3p] program but, this time the older group of 8-13 y/o's had a turn at the fun & we adjusted accordingly for this more mature audience....(aka: TSwift a PLENTY 🤣🙌😊🎶]

Our 3 small groups, rotation format was the same:

✨️Monday: Fuzzy Flow
✨️Tuesday: Strength & Snack
✨️Wednesday: Barre & Bracelets
✨️Thursday: Pilates & Popsicles

Games & crafts were added in as well & we honestly had such a great time getting to know all these young ladies all week & reminding them how WONDERFUL each & every one of them are‼️
