The late Matthew Perry graduated from South Carolina State’s law school and was pivotal to integration of South Carolina public spaces and Clemson University. SC State's law school was established in 1947 after the University of South Carolina refused to admit Black students, yet sadly closed in 1966 after USC finally integrated. Perry was the first African-American from the Deep South appointed to the federal judiciary and the first African American to serve as a U.S. District Court judge in South Carolina. The U.S. Courthouse in Columbia, SC is named in his honor. #HBCUAlum #BlackHistory #SCState #HBCU #SCSU
