Wax on...

Waxing edges and bottoms. Where the boxes edges touch there can be no glaze. The lids are fired on the bottoms during the bisque and glaze fire to prevent them from warping. This way they shrink together and still fit. If a glazed area touches another glazed surface it will fuse and the box won't open. The wax resists glaze getting in that space during the glazing process and then burns off in the kiln. I usually don't wax the bottoms of my pots and just use a dampened rug to clean any stray glaze off the bottom ( otherwise it will fuse to the kiln shelf), but I had the wax out for the boxes so I did a few bottoms too.
