Wanted to thank everyone who helped us out and stopped by for our National Drug Take Back Day event on Saturday, October 28th at the Waunakee Police Department. We took in over 40 pounds of medications and 125 pounds of sharps. We also gave away several lock boxes and bags. Working together to provide this service to our community is always appreciated and supports our efforts to encourage a healthy, resilient Waunakee. Better Together!!
It’s been a great two years and looking forward to many more❤️

Tomorrow is Drug Take Back Day
Why was Red Ribbon Week started?
Enrique (Kiki) Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. When he decided to join the US Drug Enforcement Administration, his mother tried to talk him out of it. "I'm only one person", he told her, "but I want to make a difference."
On Feb. 7, 1985, the 37-year-old Camarena left his office to meet his wife for lunch. Five men appeared at the agent's side and shoved him in a car. One month later, Camarena's body was found. He had been tortured to death.
In honor of Camarena's memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began wearing satin red badges. Parents, sick of the destruction of alcohol and other drugs, had begun forming coalitions. Some of these new coalitions took Camarena as their model and embraced his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions also adopted the symbol of Camarena's memory, the red ribbon.
It's Red Ribbon Week! This year's theme is Celebrate Life. Live Drug-Free. The theme is a reminder that by staying drug-free, you are sending a message to yourself, your community, and your future. One thing's for sure...by making healthy choices, like staying drug-free, you are much more likely to achieve your goals. So aim for the stars! We believe in you.
See you this Saturday, Oct. 28th from 10 am-12pm.

October is Talk About Your Medicines Month. The theme for 2023 is Medication Safety & Aging, and we are working to set patients up for success with reducing the risks and boosting the benefits while maintaining their health. Bodies change as we age, and many older adults take three or more medications each day. BeMedWise/NeedyMeds also has resources and tools to promote better adherence.
