Today is hot! With summer finally here remember to keep an eye on your pets to make sure they aren't getting too hot! If you take them for a walk check the sidewalk and just avoid black top, it gets very hot and can burn your pets paws.

Water activities are great for these times! And speaking of water help them stay hydrated!

Has spring sprung?! Hoping it's not another fakeout, either way get out and enjoy the weather!

It's nice sleeping where you have room to stretch but sometimes it's nice just to snuggle up!

Have you ever looked at the top of your dogs mouth? Did you notice a small bump by their top front teeth?

Have no fear!

This is something all dogs have and it's part of what contributes to their exceptional sense of smell!

This is the Incisive Papilla and it sends smell molecules to the Jacobson's organ (vomeronasal organ) to give dogs a better image of what they are smelling, along with picking up pheromones. If you see your dog chattering while sniffing they are engaging the Incisive Papilla.

The past couple months have been quite busy for us, and in the end, we have moved to Wausau!

Our dog recently was stung by either a wasp or hornet in our yard. This page was helpful with what to do!

What to Do if Your Dog Is Stung by a Bee or Wasp – American Kennel Club Bee and wasp stings can be painful and frightening for a dog. A single bee sting will produce pain, swelling, redness, inflammation.

It's that time of year! Found a bite on 2 of my dogs already. These are caused by black flies. If you see them don't be concerned the flies don't carry disease or anything like the mosquito or ticks. But they aren't fun still. Just keep an eye on your dog or whatever pet has these bites to make sure they're not biting at them or excessively licking, as broken skin could bring about infection.

As always, if you are concerned and think it is an issue please contact your vet. This is only a message to let you know what is causing these marks most likely.

To avoid these bugs it is advised to not let your dog out in the middle of the day when it is the hottest , this is the time the flies get dehydrated and really are looking for sustenance.

Making sure dog p**p is not on the yard is another way to keep them away as that organic material draws them in.
They say certain plants keep them away, as well as mosquitos! Always worth a shot if you feel like sprucing up your yard. Some of these plants are herbs like basil, mint, bay leaf and rosemary are great as kitchen staples but also for repelling flies. Other herbs that can help you ward off black flies from your dog include tansy, lavender, and sweet woodruff.

The best way to make sure they are not outside just getting bit up is to bring them in when it's hottest. Or to be out there with them so you can keep an eye on them and make sure they're not getting attacked!

Always good to remember our little fur babies don't wear shoes!
Well... at least mine don't willingly...
So unless you are able to get booties on yours just remember that just like fire, if it's too hot to touch, it's too hot for them!
That's why I like walking them in grass where they get all the different sniffs and they get the enjoyment of walking on grass.
