Tomorrow is Mother's Day and for many it is a very painful day. Todays message is how to overcome the losses of not having your children or your mother with you and to celebrate the day with gratitude .

We often will cry out "God what should I do" but then we don't listen. Sometimes He leads us but then something stands in our way that is beyond our control (or even His in some ways)

All stress is fear based! What a thought! And every day we have some type of stress. For many of you watching it may be where your next meal is coming, for others it is wondering if your child is going to make good choices, or you will find a job.

As someone who works with those battling addiction, there is fear of how we will manage our stress without our "friend" that we have come to depend on to escape our reality.

Today we will look at the things we can't control and where we can turn to relieve our fears.

We all get tired at times and want to give up but why should we press on? Today I am tired and would like to share with you why and how I plan to get out of it.

It is Easter weekend. Yesterday I joined in a blood drive at our New Day Christian Church because Jesus shed his blood for us on Good Friday so we do so for others.

It's a great thing but there is so much more to the Easter message. Today I want to talk about following in His image and His call for us That we too may rise from the tragedy of life to a new life now and for all eternity.

There is a reason God gave us the 10 commandments (and a whole ton more to give us clarity on them!) We need direction. We need to be reminded. We need to be honest with ourselves about our selfish motives and why we are so discontent.
Paul had learned this lesson and we must too. Let me know in the comments how you have learned to be content.

Be Sober-Minded-What does it mean? Is it just about alcohol?
1 Peter 5:8-9 ESV Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. "

So what is sobriety? Most people think of sobriety as not being drunk but it is much more than that. It is about being serious about what God has told us we need to do in life like "do not be drunk with wine" "do not be gluttons" "do not be lazy" "do not look at a woman to lust" "do not be jealous".

There are hundreds of verses on what we should be sober and many more on how to do it "do not be anxious" "trust in the Lord with all your heart" "fear not." It is really very simple. Sobriety is about living the life God wants us to live with serious intention.

So many conflicts have to do with expectations. We want people to do things, or we don't want them to do things and we get upset when we don't get our way.

We even get upset with God when we don't get what we want from Him but He has a plan for us and His word says we can expect Him to follow through with doing it.

I lost my keys last week to our Subaru. Can't find them anywhere so I called the dealer and he said "you are in luck...you have a 2011...if it was newer it would cost $3000!!! Are you serious??? Yes he says they have to replace the entire computer the door etc... That's crazy... so I got the cheap version without the FOB and it was "only" $275 plus the tow which was about $150. Jesus came to bring peace and goodwill on earth to all mankind yet what do we do with that? Do we rejoice in the gift he has given us or do we get all stressed out about the commercialism of it all.

Today I will talk about the peace that Jesus offers and how and why we need to stop focusing on things that stress us out and start focusing on the reason for the season.

Fasting is a spiritual thing! Thoughout Scripture people fasted in a lot of ways and for a lot of reasons but it was always a spiritual and physical benefit. Mary and Joseph "fasted" from s*x until Jesus was born, Daniel fasted from wine and meat and other foods the wine ate that were other than what came from the earth.

How many times have you tried to get healthy and failed? How many holidays have you overindulged on alcohol, food, shopping or other things? How much has it cost you in money, sanity and frustration?

Well today I challenge you to join me for a 7 Day Daniel Fast Challenge to kick the booze, sugar and overindulgence of the holiday season.

Why this time of year you say? Well duh... to prevent the chaos that happens during the holidays and the weight gain and feeling awful after eating and drinking too much.

Perhaps we can prevent a drunk driving accident or someone dying!

Are you ready? We take 1 day at a time so can you at least do 1 day with just water, fruits and veges? You still have 5 days before we start (kick off Sunday the 10th, Fast day Monday the 11th) So you have a few days to psyche up, buy your veges and fruit and start cutting down on the booze, caffeine, carbs and sugar.
