I'm a landscape architect with 40 years of experience Let me help you create a garden that will be a beautiful oasis.
I believe every garden should be unique and fit your life style, include favorite plants, and be a great place to relax.
Replace Periwinkle (Vinca) With These Groundcovers Periwinkle (Vinca) has been invading Wisconsin landscapes for years. We offer better groundcover alternatives to use instead of Periwinkle.

Did you know that most birds migrate at night? Unfortunately, they can be drawn off course by lighted structuresโmany are killed in building collisions or drop from exhaustion after circling them. Learn how you can help. https://bit.ly/3TAliGq

Volunteer with We Got This this Summer!
We get a lot of questions specifically asking for ways to help out at We Got This. We Got This is known for a couple of things. Of course weโre known for our founder, Andre Lee Ellis who is now working at The Cage (check out the work being done at The Cage at https://thecagemke.com). Weโre also known for the great work our young people do throughout the year. Today we want to highlight ways to help out at We Got This that involve spending a little time in or around the garden teaming up to work with our youth.
Each week a couple dozen 5th - 12th graders disperse from the garden at roughly 8:15 am with trash pickers and buckets in hand. We are always looking for community members to join us from 8:15 - 9:15 am as we work to physically make the neighborhood a more attractive and beautiful space through the removal of trash and small debris from our streets, sidewalks, and alleys.
Throughout the week, we have times set aside for individuals that want to help out in our garden spaces, some of which are staffed by We Got This student leaders. If you have a green thumb or wish that you did, we would love to have you come by and be a part of the team. Finally, we feel that we can never have enough mentors working with the team at We Got This. Mentors commit to coming to most or all of a four hour summer program session and follow most of the same schedule the students do. All it takes to be a mentor is a couple of hours and some life experience.
3 Ways to Volunteer this Summer:
1. Join us any Saturday (June - August) from 8:15 - 9:15 in beautifying the space around 9th and Ring
2. Be part of our student leadership team and help in the garden during the week
3. Become a We Got This mentor and be part of our Saturdays from 8 - noon
If you would like to volunteer some time at We Got This or have questions about how you might do so, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]

A little winter humor....

Where you can, please leave the leaves.
They are filled with life and the nutrients of the next years!
In these leaves there are future pollinators and lightning bugs which need two years in leaf litter to mature to the adult form we love to see.
Do a bit less work, and let nature guide your yard set up.
Where leaves naturally collect, spread more there, if it is an area you may want to garden native plants later.
That leaf litter alone can start you on your way to having a unique pocket prairie, where you let more of your lawn fade into native shortgrass prairie in sunny areas, and woodland emergent in shady areas.
Consider leaving the leaves, and maybe, if you can, leave them off the street.

If only we all grew food instead of maintaining lawns, image using spaces that are vacant and transform them to green spaces almost every block in the city would be able too eat off its own block.
