Here's super volunteer and coordinator Kristina Paris with this year's Irish Fest Summer School t-shirt/merch design! Kristina works super hard and wears a lot of hats in the CelticMKE organization, and one of her roles is selecting and ordering merchandise for the Summer School.

This year she worked with instructor Patrick Gallagher to create this beautiful, multi-colored Celtic knotwork salmon of knowledge triskele. As you can see, we'll have various colors of t-shirts available, as well as *zippered* tote bags with a monochrome version!

The Fáilte Desk and retail area for the Summer School will open at 4 PM on Monday, August 12. Come early for the Monday evening classes and Welcome Social, and don't miss the chance to pick up this year's special design!

Some fun trivia about Kristina - she took the flute class at the first Irish Fest Summer School in 1987 and has been involved ever since! She organized regular Irish music lessons in Milwaukee with Chicago-based teacher Noel Rice for a number of years, which eventually evolved into the year-round Milwaukee Irish Fest School of Music.

We're excited to welcome Julianne Stanz back to the Irish Fest Summer School for both a 3 day class and Friday Sampler!

C01: Celtic Spirituality: Wisdom from an Ancient World (T-W-Th)
At the heart of Celtic spirituality is the interplay of God, humanity, and the world; of light, twilight, and darkness. This interplay is often expressed in the Celtic love of thresholds, boundary spaces where time and emotion are marked differently than in the everyday. The edges of pain and pleasure, anger and joy, become blurred, and a thin space opens for those who have eyes to see it, ears to hear it, and hearts to feel it.

FS02: Sampler: St. Brigid: An introduction to one of Ireland’s most loved women (Friday only)
St. Brigid, often called “Mary of the Gaels” is one of the three patrons of Ireland along with St. Patrick and St. Columba. Her life and legacy have become intermingled with mythology, folklore and Christianity. But who St. Brigid was and what we can concretely know about her are often difficult to understand. In this sampler class, you will have the opportunity to delve more into the life of one of Ireland’s most famous and much loved saints through the sacred places and holy spaces associated with her.

Storyteller, author and encourager Julianne Stanz has been profoundly influenced by her life growing up in Ireland and is a nationally known speaker and story teller. For over twenty years Julianne has spoken throughout the world on the topics of celtic spirituality, prayer and the traditions of Ireland integrating lessons from her Celtic roots into her talks, seminars, retreats and writings.

Rory Makem will be at the Milwaukee Irish Fest Summer School this August teaching The Songs of Sarah Makem!

C03: The Songs of Sarah Makem
Davey Hammond once said of Sarah “Singing came naturally to her, as easy as speaking or breathing.” Her importance in the history of Irish song cannot be overstated. Her unwitting contributions to the tradition were recognized and celebrated when in 2021 she was the first to be inducted into the RTE Folk Music Hall of Fame. We will, once again, celebrate her life and explore the vast repertoire that she left for us.

A seasoned performer with over 25 years on the road, Rory has toured extensively with The Makem and Spain Brothers and for 17 years toured and played guitar with his father, the legendary Tommy Makem. He has entertained countless sold-out venues, festivals, and theaters throughout the United States, Canada, England, Scotland and Ireland. At his best on stage, Rory captivates audiences with his skilled musicianship, his charisma and passion for the songs, his extensive knowledge of poetry and history, and his humor.
