Learn More about Homelessness in Wauwatosa 👇
Because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Milwaukee County has seen an increase in the number of individuals experiencing homelessness — Wauwatosa is no exception. The Wauwatosa Health, Police, and Fire Departments are working together to address this experience in our community and provide necessary resources to the individuals impacted by homelessness.
Wauwatosa Police Department, Wauwatosa Fire Department and Wauwatosa Health Department recently talked about the homeless population in Wauwatosa.
Top takeaways:
1) Homeless people are individuals who have complex pasts. There are no quick solutions to helping someone.
2) Wauwatosa has a social worker, police officers, and other first responders who are trained in crisis intervention training. We offer assistance when we can while also balancing the rights of everyone.
3) Homelessness is not illegal. It doesn't need to be reported to the police unless criminal activity occurs.

Our first Community Connections program with Wauwatosa Public Library - Children's Department was a big hit!
The kids took turns being the doctor and bringing in patients--many of our favorite picture book characters suffered head injuries, cuts, colds, fever, and the Pigeon even got a splinter! Our young doctors did a great job bandaging, prescribing medicine, or writing on the patient charts--and taking turns!
Our next session on Thursday, Nov 16 at 10 am will be Grocery Store themed! In partnership with the Wauwatosa Health Department, we will read, sing, and talk about healthy food choices, washing hands and fruits/veggies before eating, and get the chance to shop and sell in our pretend store!
For children ages 3 - 6 with an adult, registration required. Wauwatosalibrary.org/register
