It is easy to think of chronic pain as infinite, insurmountable, and incurable. Certainly, this can result in a daily flood of negative emotion which can actually perpetuate and make your chronic pain worse! Instead, it is important to understand and believe the truth: 1. Everything is temporary. 2. There are ways to treat your chronic pain and feel better. 3. You can live a meaningful life, full of love and purpose, despite your chronic pain. Take time to appreciate your progress, especially the small steps. Some people may benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (or CBT) to change these negative thought patterns. Probably the most common cause of chronic low back pain is a muscular supply and demand mismatch - that is, weak muscles and a big gut leading to back strain, spasm, abnormal posture, and pain. Can be fixed by strengthening your back muscles, losing some abdominal fat, or both! Not all back pain needs injections (or surgery).
