Ellis County Sheriff's Office
The mission of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is to provide professional law enforcement services to citizens and visitors of Ellis County.
This Office will strive to enforce the law and maintain order in a fair and impartial manner.
Way to go Explorer Lieutenant Jaden Segura!
One of the biggest responsibilities we have at the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is running the Ellis County Jail. Every year the Texas Commission on Jail Standards does an inspection of our facility. I am pleased to announce that we had that inspection last week and once again passed with flying colors. I want to personally thank each and every member of our staff for the awesome job they do every single day. A special shout out to Chief Terry Ogden, Captain Tommie Eberhart, Lieutenant’s Wendy Hammonds, Daniel Gonzales, George Flores and Jamie Land.
Captain Eberhart is retiring at the end of this month. One of the pictures below is Captain Eberhart signing his last jail inspection report. We will miss you Cap!

This week we celebrate Animal Control Officers Appreciation week. We have 3 ACOs that remarkably cover 952 square miles. These guys ensure that livestock and other animals are quickly put up and out of roadways when they get out all across our county.
The call volume that our ACOs handle is on average 15-16 calls per ACO. Not only do these men take care of loose livestock, they also conduct animal welfare checks and look into allegations of neglect and poor living conditions of domesticated animals.
Don Smith has served with the ECSO for 7.5 years and currently holds an advanced ACO license from the State of Texas. One of the things Don enjoys about his job is the ability to help people and animals. When Don isn't at work, he enjoys spending time with his family and fishing.
Terry Bryant has served with the ECSO for 7 years. One of three things Terry enjoys about being an ACO is being outdoors and not stuck in an office. Terry enjoys watching the horse races when he is not serving the public as an ACO.
Danny Gammon is our most recent ACO hire. He joined us 2 years ago coming from the City of Balch Springs where he ran the animal control shelter and was a supervisor there for 5 years. Danny's favorite thing about being an ACO is that he has 952 square miles of office and working with animals. When Danny isn't at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife. His favorite things are Jesus and the outdoors.
These men do a fantastic job daily of meeting the needs of our growing county. They are often faced with obstacles that they regularly overcome when it comes to animal welfare. Join us in thanking them for a job well done.
