Our Story

Steve Widrick, owner of Central Kubota, is a third-generation tractor dealer. His grandfather opened the family’s first tractor business in northern New York in 1949. After his grandfather retired, his father and uncle owned and operated it for years until Steve, together with his brother and cousin, bought it in 1984. The three of them grew the business to include three separate tractor dealerships, as they worked side-by-side for 24 years.

In 2008, when the opportunity arose, the trio sold the business to a neighboring dealer with nine stores. For the next two years, Steve and his son, Justin, invested full-time into dairy farming. However, with such a small dairy operation, it was too difficult to make a good living for his family. So, began the search for a tractor dealership in warmer weather, in the south, namely Texas.

In the fall of 2011, Steve, Elnora and their two children, Justin and Jamie, took a road trip to Texas, in pursuit of a new tractor dealership and a new place to call home. After visiting Dallas, they were traveling south on Interstate 35, and spotted Central Kubota. They quickly turned around and came back. Steve sat down and asked the owner if he was interested in selling. At the time the dealership was not for sale, but within a month the owner sparked interest and “The rest is history.”

The dealership celebrated it’s 7th anniversary in March of 2019. Since the transfer of ownership, there has been many changes. The properties next door to the dealership’s location were purchased, which doubled lot size, for more display of set-up inventory. A large Kubota bright-orange branding sign has been installed, to stand out to customers traveling on either side on the interstate, during day or night. Also, the addition of a new line of Kubota equipment, was introduced in 2017, including excavators, compact track loaders and skid steers for construction as well as hay tools, balers, and higher horsepower tractors. These products are now available at Central Kubota, along with the company’s previous line-up of turf and ag machines (zero-turn mowers, RTV utility vehicles, and compact to mid-size utility tractors). The customer base includes many weekend ranchers, but Central Kubota is also seeing a large growth in commercial contracts, both in agriculture and construction. Lastly, Central Kubota is growing, and with growth comes expansion, so the company is set to have a new branch located in Corsicana, coming in 2020.
