Hey guys! It's been a while since I last shared anything. I've been slammed with so many cool projects lately that social media has kind of taken a back burner.

Anyhow, I've got some openings for the very near future; so if this is your year for custom decks, cabinets, or random projects you've been meaning to get to, feel free to reach out to me!

Hope everyone is having a decent enough new year so far! Anh and I have been hermiting up this winter and can't wait for warmer weather so we can garden and tackle some outdoor projects of our own!

4 years ago this week, I started my job as a rookie carpenter on a crew of four. I had basic experience with power tools but not much else. I've always wanted to learn carpentry, or something close to it, and I took a major change in pay and comfortability to do this. My plan wasn't for this to become my career and I always had a fallback, but this quickly became a passion and to this day I love what I do.
As a side effect, everything that I've learned in the last 4 years I've been able to apply to our home. If you know Anh and me, we have a unique style and I can't even imagine trying to explain what we would want to a normal contractor 😆 so here's a picture of the before and after of our current kitchen renovation that I'm pretty proud of.

All this to say, if you're looking at a career change or want to learn a hobby that could improve your life, go for it. It was one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

Hey everyone!
Some of you might know how much Anh and I love older homes and detailed trim work, owning a Victorian ourselves. This particular job was so much fun and getting to add curb appeal to a beautiful home in a historic neighborhood was a special experience.

Here's a custom playset I recently finished up!
My client was looking for something their kids would find difficult to grow out of, and what's better than a climbing gym in your backyard? The best part was getting to test all of the equipment out to make sure it was safe 😆

My friend Branden recently went out on his own and started up his own hardscaping company. I worked with him at Bear Creek when he was the foreman of their hardscaping crew, and his work is incredible. He's also someone that I trust implicitly with my clients and job sites. Feel free to follow his page to give him some love and reach out for an estimate!

Hey everyone! I'm back from my social media hibernation. I promise it's not due to inactivity, but rather the opposite. I've got a backlog of about 8 months worth of jobs to post coming up, and a lot of very fun projects scheduled this year.

Let's kick this off with a job we finished for a friend in Charlottesville replacing the old back deck completely, and repairing a beautiful treehouse deck down below. All of the railings were built with ipe(Brazilian walnut) 20+ years ago, so we tried to breathe life back into those with some heavy sanding.

I'm currently booked out until late July/early August so if you're looking at having a job done within the next 3 to 4 months, message me for a consultation!

It's been about a year since I started my own journey with Moonflower Carpentry (aptly named after our home). This year, my partner and their friend, Jackie, started their new venture with Moonflower Remedy!

If you told me 2 years ago this is where we'd be, I'd tell you you were crazy. But I'm really excited that Anh gets to work at home, doing what they love, to take care of the gardens, the cats, and our future chickens.

For me, the best partnership with your loved ones is one that allows you both to do exactly what ignites passion - and sometimes that's two totally different things We're going to work together to keep growing Moonflower in all its shapes and forms to continue offering our passion to the valley, and always in a way that's kind, inclusive, and trustworthy.

You can follow Anh and Jackie on IG or FB under Moonflower Remedy, and you can expect to see some collaboration happening in the near future for my clients!

I'm so terrible at posting my jobs. I promise I've been very busy and have several more completed projects for you to feast your eyes upon.
Here is a "treehouse" playfort that was wrapped up just before Thanksgiving. Really fun to build and I hope it provides many years of enjoyment for my client's family 😄

By the way, does anyone have recommendations for an electrician that's accommodating of all backgrounds? Unfortunately, it's difficult to find tradespeople who aren't judgemental and no one deserves to feel uncomfortable in their own home. I'm trying to build a network of solid contractors, so feel free to plug yours in the comments if you've had a good experience!

My clients are going to have plenty of space to hang out on this 528 square foot deck! I think that's larger than my last apartment 😆 They've already moved their gazebo on top to enjoy winter nights with the help of a space heater. With mountain views in this quiet neighborhood(save for the occasional emu outbreak), this is going to be the envy of decks everywhere.

Photos from Moonflower Carpentry's post 11/08/2022

We've started framing on the largest deck we've ever built. When it's done, it'll sit at 44'x12' and have picture-framed Trex decking. If you need me, I'll be soaking in an ice bath every day after work 😆

Just wrapped up this carport out in Harrisonburg. This is serving as their first satellite structure as they prepare to rebuild a home on the property in the upcoming years.

Here's a job that I finished up last month!
The client had this idea in their head for over a year and contacted me to help make it a reality. I love when y'all come to me with these creative projects. Before, this space separating the driveway from the backyard didn't offer much privacy from a busy downtown street. Now, it serves as form and function to hide trash and recycling bins as well as forming a perfect new patio area.

I still have some openings left for some smaller projects in December and January before I begin planning out my Spring schedule. If you're interested, feel free to send me a message to get started on a consultation! Enjoy the rest of your evening, y'all 😁

Hey guys! It's definitely been a while since I posted last. I'm admittedly not great about sharing my work, but I've got a moment today to fix all that... For now at least. 😀

This was a project I finished up last week for an old friend of ours in Waynesboro. They wanted an entirely different approach to what they were working with, so we removed the ramp in exchange for a larger, lower deck with the added bonus of a small pergola for their hanging plants and another for their porch swing!

I've got some openings coming up in December and January, so if you've been waiting on getting some work done with me, now's the time to get your estimate! Winter's an awesome time to get it all done so it's ready for you when the weather warms back up in Springtime.

Hope y'all have a great week and are enjoying the weather!

I'm back from my trip and ready to knock more jobs out! Here's a fun fence/planter box project that I just finished up this afternoon. A special thanks to my client for letting me keep my trailer in front of their house while I was gone 😅

This one evolved from a simple decorative fence into a 32' planter box for vegetables next Spring, when I'll come back and fill it with soil. Garden boxes are probably one of my favorite things to build and this one was by far the most elaborate one that I've done. I'll have to make a separate post just for garden photos soon. I would love to see some of your setups and I want to show off my pumpkins 🎃

Anyways, have a great week y'all!

Hey everyone!

I'll be out of town this week so I apologize if I don't get back to you until Sunday/Monday.

Here are some photos of a few hardscaping projects that we've recently finished, starting with the finished product and following with progress shots. Luckily I've had a vacation scheduled to cap off two weeks of digging and moving stone 😆
These were both a lot of fun for me and I love any opportunity to incorporate landscaping into my carpentry (or vice versa). Speaking of, my current job is a really cool fence that doubles as a planter box so be on the lookout for that this following week.

I hope y'all have a great day!

27 posts, 450 pickets, and over 200 feet of fencing later, I'm finished with by far my most challenging project so far being on my own.
This job was special to me, as I was approached to build this fence to prevent my client's daughter from being harassed by the neighborhood kids when she was in the backyard. Which is not cool. Everyone deserves to feel comfortable wherever they go, and especially their home. I hope now this is a much more inviting space for their family.

I have a very fun job this week that I'll be posting sometime either Friday or Saturday, so keep an eye out on your feed. Enjoy the rest of your night, y'all!

Hey y'all! I've been staying busy all Summer with a variety of different projects and am super grateful for all the excitement surrounding them!

I wanted to take a minute to share a project I worked on for one of our locals who was kind enough to share her pictures and videos. She asked me to build this pond for her as a memorial for her late dogs, and I think she did a beautiful job putting in all the finishing touches to make it truly special and unique.

As I said before, I've been plugging away with clients and am now accepting new consultations for Fall and Winter! If you've got a project that you've been aching to have done, or just waiting for me to have a moment to do it, now's the time!

Stay cool in this heat and have a great rest of the week!

Have you ever been on one of those drop tower rides at a theme park and felt that panic before you plunge hundreds of feet back down to the ground? That's how I felt taking the old deck apart at my most recent project. Now, my client has a 16'x10' outdoor space that is not only usable, but safe. Sorry, life insurance companies. As a side note: I really need to invest in a drone camera for all of these taller projects. Seeing these ground angles is like being in the front row at a movie theater.

I have two updates to post next week including a potential stopping point at the West Augusta Cabana while utilities are put in, and an older project involving cinder blocks and a pond. So there's more cool stuff in the works. Alright everyone, enjoy your weekends!

Photos from Moonflower Carpentry's post 07/03/2022

Another update on the West Augusta outdoor cabana! The metal roof is fully installed and the temporary braces are finally removed. Walls for the outdoor bath and shower are starting to come together, and soon the trailer will be brought back onto the concrete pad as the main outdoor living quarters.
With electrical and plumbing on the way, this space will be so functional and a great place for camping trips, gatherings, or just a space to overlook the river while having meals!

I have plenty of awesome jobs coming up soon that I'll keep y'all updated on. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

If you've been wondering where I've been lately, this would be it! A year ago, a client of mine requested a HUGE project for their river front property. This RV port/cabana/indoor outdoor bathroom project has easily been one of the coolest projects I've had the opportunity to work on, and I couldn't ask for a better view.

Anh and I drew up the plans for this and it seems to have taken a new life of its own! Every day offers new insight and creativity that keeps this project exciting and fresh. One of my favorite concepts for this was our idea to put a huge sliding barn door across the entirety of the wall, allowing for panoramic views of the river while you shower or soak in the tub; and since it will be fully covered, you can still enjoy the views in spite of hot or rainy days!

We'll be on a camping trip this weekend, so if you do end up reaching out to me, I'll be sure to get back with you next week. Hope y'all enjoy your weekend and I'll see everyone soon!

I just picked up my trailer from We Are Converge after having my logo installed on both sides. Eye-catching, right?
There are a few more stickers to add to the back but I'll post that in a few days along with my current job update!

Photos from Moonflower Carpentry's post 06/02/2022

Hey everybody!
I haven't posted in a few weeks but I've definitely been busy. Here are some project photos, all from the same beautiful farmhouse owned by some fantastic people. The homeowner had already built this deck and asked me for help with an assisted ramp going down the right side, and bench seating similar to one of the projects that I posted not too long ago. When you keep scrolling, you'll also notice some incredible wooden porch columns original to the house that had been starting to rot away at the bases for some time. I built new 3' column box bases for each post and replaced the rotted sections and painted the columns again for a rejuvenated finish.

As an update: I've been slammed lately and as a result I'm not taking new consultation requests for at least a few weeks. I'll be working pretty far out of town on an amazing project(stay tuned for more) and I'm already struggling to keep my head above water on current estimates. Sorry for any inconveniences, but if you can keep me in mind until later this month I'll be in much better shape to take on new quotes!

Photos from Moonflower Carpentry's post 05/11/2022

Just finished up this fence for some super cool clients! They were wanting a modern take on a traditional fence that provided a safe space for their dog to play around, while also providing a way to commune with their incredibly friendly neighbors (most of whom came over to say hi, scope out the project, and offer up their hospitality!).

I'm so grateful to be able to have experiences with so many kind and creative clients; and even more grateful to be chosen to execute their visions for them!

If you've had a good experience with me on your project, I'd really appreciate your reviews on Facebook or Google! I'm in the process of listing myself on NextDoor (which is where a lot of y'all are finding me somehow); but until I do, this will still be my main focus for showcasing what I love to do!

Just finished up with a project for one of the kindest women you'll find in the valley. She recently relocated to Waynesboro and wanted some work done on her new home. The house was beautifully renovated, but there were a few odds and ends (mostly the deck), that she wanted addressed.

After deck board replacements, built-in seating adjustments, a few modern applications, and a few coats of paint, her back deck is ready for a relaxing night out back! I was also able to help out with a few odds and ends that she didn't have time to do to help make her home that much easier to settle into.

Anh and I will be working together to figure out a custom fire pit option for her next project, since she loves spending her evenings outside with a good cocktail and a warm fire. So happy to have new neighbors in Waynesboro, and even more happy to have invitations to enjoy the final product with my clients!

Oh hi there! Just wanted to share my latest project with y'all. I had a special request to basically make a watch tower for stargazing, and I think it turned out really cool! It's perfect for some lounge chairs, a telescope, and a cafe table for clear nights; and there's space underneath for a hot tub, shade garden, or whatever else they want to do! Personally, I can't wait to see it when they have it all set up. Definitely a fun project for a couple who are kids at heart!

I've worked on plenty of pergolas, but never one like this!
Swannanoa kindly asked me for some help replacing some sections of their pergola that were in disrepair. Several of the old joists were rotting and new ones have been ordered, but the framing is now structurally sound.
When the new lumber comes in for the new joists, I'll head back up to complete this section!

This afternoon, I finished a very special project for a family and I wanted to share it with everyone!

My client wanted to repurpose her son's childhood play fort into an arbor for his upcoming marriage. I started by carefully dismantling it (making sure to salvage every piece of wood I could use for the project) before making new cuts and turning it into the final piece you see here.

I'm so honored to have been able to contribute to this incredibly thoughtful refab, and I hope the family can find prolonged joy with their new custom heirloom.

If you're looking for custom woodwork like this, feel free to reach out to me and we can get you set up with a consultation! (A piece like this usually takes around 2 days.)

Hey everyone! Long time no talk.
It's been a crazy first few weeks since starting Moonflower. I've had around a dozen consultations with some amazing people so far and I'm looking forward to hearing from more of y'all. If your deck or porch is in a less-than-fortunate state and you're tired of looking at it, send me a message!
Several people have asked for some pictures of my previous work, so here's a small collection of what I've been up to at Bear Creek over the last few years as a foreman.
