Last week, VPC lost another longtime member of its family. James Gee was a part of our family for 33 years and contributed his skills in the machine shop, eventually supervising and teaching others who carry on those skills today. Our thoughts are with his family and his wife, Tham. Thank you, James for so many years of service and friendship.

Today, the City of Waynesboro recognized VPC in honor of Business Appreciation Month. We were visited by City Councilman Kenny Lee who represents our Ward (Ward C). He was joined by the City Director of Economic Development & Tourism, Greg Hitchin. They spent time learning more about VPC and our employees, and received a facility tour.
As a token of the City’s appreciation, they gave each employee a gift card for a free slice of pizza from Benny's Pizza.
VPC is proud to have been a part of the City of Waynesboro for 64 years and counting!

VPC is an international company that conducts business all over the world. However, pictures like these of Afton Mountain in Virginia, remind us of the breathtaking beauty right here at the home of our headquarters. These were taken by VPC employee Tom Leslie on this way into work this morning. Thank you for sharing, Tom!

For over 45 years, Joy Wade was a co-worker and friend at VPC for so many. She and her sister, Shirley, started working at VPC as teenagers with their Mom. No matter what was going on in her world, Joy always asked how you were doing, with a deep-rooted sincerity. When her health began forcing her to stay home, she longed to come back to work where she said it felt like "family." For all of us, it truly feels like we have lost a family member indeed. Our thoughts are with Joy's family and our VPC family member, Shirley, during this time. We miss our Joy!

Today VPC mourns the passing of our recent retiree, Donna Fisher, after a hard-fought battle with Covid-19. Donna retired last year after 41 years of service to VPC. During all of her years here, it was hard to catch her without a smile on her face. She was loved by so many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones. She touched the lives of 41 years worth of VPC employees with her laughter and smile.

We will call this "Throwback Tuesday." This picture of our beloved retiree Wanda Breeden was taken long ago and used last year in her Retiree Memory Book. Great memories at a great company! We miss you, Wanda!

Today we celebrated our employees with an Appreciation Lunch. Our own Bob Straway (aka Chef Bob) was sweet enough to prepare hot dogs and baked beans on his 75th birthday. We also enjoyed mac & cheese, cole slaw and delicious ice cream via Smiley's Ice Cream Truck. A small token of thanks for our amazing employees who are the reason VPC continues to be the world leader in interconnect solutions.

Meet Chris Church! A self-declared lifelong learner, Chris earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physics from JMU and a Master's Degree in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota. He joined the VPC team in 2007 as an Application Engineer and has since moved into the role of a Product Engineer.

"I am most proud of being the lead development engineer for the VTAC product line but I have to say my work on the MARS system follows close behind. I love R&D work and VTAC provided a great opportunity for this since it was VPC’s first high-speed connector. Not only were we developing a new product, but we also pursued new manufacturing processes and established new testing methods. Once the right angle version was developed we even began expanding into high-speed PCB design, which I also lead."

When he is not at VPC, Chris enjoys traveling with his wife of 13 years and building LEGOs with his two children.

As our employees work hard and keep up their efforts to stay safe and help prevent Covid-19 through handwashing and sanitizing, we thought it was also important to consider another source of contamination we may not always think about- our cell phones. Did you know on average a cell phone can contain up to 10 times more bacteria than a toilet seat?!

As a small thank you to our employees and a way to help them keep their own cell phones clean, we distributed a VPC phone sanitizing kit to everyone.

Thank you for your continuous efforts to keep VPC a safe place to work! Our employees rock!

Yesterday, as part of VPC’s continuing efforts to prevent COVID-19 and encourage employee safety, tests were administered to a random sampling of 26 volunteer employees. Not only is employee health and safety our number one priority, having a healthy workforce allows VPC to continue supporting our customers, many of whom are manufacturing critical supplies such as ventilators and medical equipment. These COVID-19 tests were privately purchased by VPC which is why they were permitted to be performed on asymptomatic individuals. Finding medical professionals to come on-site and administer the tests was no easy task, but after becoming aware of VPC’s support of critical industries like those in the medical field, Augusta Health answered the call. A special thanks to them for their special effort. VPC continues to practice strict social distancing guidelines, sanitizing measures, daily temperature checks and educational employee outreach as this unprecedented event continues.
