Gutter cleaning on a 2-story home in the Holly Hills STL are. I typically only clean multi-story buildings when the roof is walkable. Client wasn’t home so I did not have access to their second story balcony door, so instead I used two ladders.

Air conditioner cleaning / washout. All AC units should be cleaned yearly; if not twice a year. Pulled and reversed and AC fuse disconnects. Removed the top cover and fans. Washed from the inside and from the outside. Reinstalled and tested. Personally I think washing just from the outside is sufficient. Question to my HVAC friends - inside or outside washing; what is more effective? Comment below 👇

Installed IKEA curtain rods and curtains. The IKEA BETYDLIG curtain rod brackets can be installed two ways allowing for the distance from the window to be changed and include bracket covers. Client was wanting as much of “room darkening” as possible.

Gutter cleaning. Gutter washout. Gutter guard cleaning. Roof debris cleaning. Whatever you want to call it … I got the leaves out/off of the roof, gutters, and gutter guards. Plus washed it all off.

Dasher got some new toys. He loves the hollow bones but he keeps dropping them (accidentally) on Comet and Cupid. Now he’s got some chew toys that don’t hurt the other pups as much.

Several outlet receptacle replacements. An exterior WR-GFCI (water resistant) and in-use cover. A few 2-prong that wore out and wouldn’t hold a plug anymore (plus reused the cover plates per clients request).

Installed a kick-down door stop and a sliding closet door bottom guide. Yes the door stop was installed on the interior of a front door - for security purposes.

Bathroom update. Nothing huge but some small changes make a huge difference. New vanity, faucet, light fixture, PVC baseboard, caulk around the tub/sink/baseboard, and a window blind. Had to trim a 1/2” corner off the outlet faceplate.

“No more b**g rips”, says Mr. Smith (the landlord). Clients tenants keep removing the basement smoke detectors and batteries to smoke w**d. Rather or not the detectors actually go off, it’s a huge safety factor to not have working smoke detectors. Installed new 10-year worry-free detectors with a cage using security screws; which take a special drill bit.

Installed about a dozen window blinds (2” wood faux). Also had to remove the old mini-blinds and about broken curtain rods; along with patching all the old holes in the wood window frames.

A great way to start back into handyman work with some smaller projects this week. Client has a list of projects that I can easily knock out. First on the list is to remove, clean and paint several ceiling air vent registers/diffusers.

Replaced a Fluidmaster Inc. toilet fill valve and two light fixtures. This was the first time I’ve had to remove the toilet tank to replace the fill valve. This particular American Standard toilet with concealed traps way, doesn’t allow for the tools to get underneath the fill valve easily. Not a huge deal. Still got it done.

Replaced a flagpole bracket. 🇺🇸 This type of repair might seem silly to some, but if you don’t have the tools or even the capability (age restriction), this could be invaluable to some people.

Client did not like how her toilet was flushing and filling. Removed the tank and swapped the Flushing Valve Kit and Toilet Fill Valve with Fluidmaster Inc. products. Now the toilet easily flushed that 💩 down!

One last adventure before returning to work. Visiting family and swimming is great therapy! Plus Dasher got to swim for the first time. Comet and Cupid love the sun. Dasher loves sitting on my lap in the pool.

🎶 💥 Guess who’s back, back again? 👨🏻🚒 👨🔧 Me!
The surgeon cleared me to go back to work full time. With that being said, I still have some restrictions and pain with certain movements which will take up to a year to heal (which is normal). I will be starting smaller jobs and calling back all the postponed clients.
Thank you 🙏 for all your support, kind words, and patients. Feel free to reach out with your list of projects and I’ll get you on the calendar ASAP!

Handmade wood crate topper. Dasher’s crate got an upgrade using leftover 1”x4” material from the Fur-Real Fitness Mobile Doggy Gym ceiling. Size is 23”x36” with a 3/4” lip so it won’t slide off the crate. Wood was already stained and polyurethaned. It’s not perfect so I’m considering this as my prototype but there are a few things I would do different for the next one.

Some jobs you just have to turn down. After reading No. 1, it’s gonna be a hard NO for me! But at least they were honest 🤷♂️

Swapped two (2) door k**b and lock sets on exterior doors. Going from brushed nickel to flat black. I’ll be back to swap several interior door handle sets and hinges.

Helped a DIYer client with their half bathroom makeover. I can’t take credit for everything. I installed the trim and wainscoting, mirror, light, medicine cabinet/wall storage, and minimally helped with the wallpaper. Client did everything else.

These KLËARVŪE Cabinetry® Spill Guard Mats from Menards are a nice way to give your kitchen sink cabinet a refreshed look and provide protection. This cabinet has the water lines coming from below - shut the water off, removed the water shutoffs, cut holes for them to come through, and hooked everything back up. Also had to trim the mat to the proper width.

Some good news. Last week the surgeon released me for “light duty” work and should soon be released for full-time firefighting. I still have several full-range mobility issues I’m working through along with some pain. Progress is being made. Handyman jobs will resume soon; starting with smaller jobs and progressing from there. Thank you all for your support and understanding.

Swapped a kitchen faucet with the Delta Faucet Leland with ShieldSpray™ and MagnaTite™ Docking System. Unfortunately, about a week later the faucet sprayer started dripping when not in use. This has nothing to do with the install and typically a bad cartridge or sometimes the sprayer. Delta Faucet does have a lifetime warranty - unfortunately still waiting to hear back from them.
