Got a philodendron or monstera? 🌿

Chances are you have (or will have) aerial roots!! Aerial roots emerge from above the soil level, and feed off… well, air!!! They soak up moisture in the air while they search for a source of soil to root into!

They can get pretty unruly if left unmanaged, so what are you supposed to do with them? You have 3 options!

Option 1️⃣ The plants favorite! Most plants that put out aerial roots such as philodendrons and monsteras, are natural climbers, and in the wild will use those roots to grip and wrap around trees. So the plants favorite option is to mimic a tree trunk with a moss pole! Get your plant staked up with one of our moss poles, and tuck those aerial roots right into it!

Option 2️⃣ The easiest option! Simply direct that root toward the soil, and lightly tuck it in, and it’ll take it from there! It’ll continue to root into the soil since it found what it needed, so no more wild roaming roots!

Option 3️⃣ The last resort! If the roots are too long to direct back into the soil, or you’re not a fan of the moss pole option, then just snip them off! It won’t hurt em! While they do benefit from having aerial roots, their benefits are relatively minuscule compared to the rest of the root systems! Don’t be afraid to just snip them right off, but leave at least an inch or two before it reaches the stem, to prevent any potential issues with infection while that cut root heals!

Caladiums are relatively low-maintenance plants, requiring only consistent moisture, partial to full shade, and occasional fertilization. ☀️💧🌿

They also don't have many pest or disease problems, making them a great choice for gardeners of all skill levels!

for the love of ficus 🌿💚

Ficus is a large genus of approximately 750 species 🤯 and is on the list of one of the most air-purifying plants in the world making it a great choice for your home!

generally easy to care for, most ficus plants like bright indirect light. be sure to not overwater your ficus, and fertilize regularly! ☀️💧

to keep your ficus full and growing, prune regularly. avoid placing your plant near drafts as this could damage the leaves 🌿
