Signals to be used by a vessel in distress - All vessels 16 feet and greater, except for rowboats, kayaks and canoes are required to carry USCG approved day and nighttime visual distress signals. One option for daytime use is an orange distress flag.

Ride inside! “Bowriding" is dangerous. Never allow passengers to ride on gunwales, seat backs or sundecks while underway. Having a passenger seated in any area not specifically designated as passenger seating while underway is not only unsafe, it is unlawful. With all the comfortable seating options available, it's easy to stay safe!

OPEN DOCK HAND POSITION AT OUR CANANDAIGUA LOCATION
We have 8 boats at our Canandaigua docks where this position is responsible for ensuring they are well maintained and secure during your shift. We are a very customer focused company, interacting with the members in a helpful and greeting personality is a must.

Work Hours
• Shifts are 12-4pm or 12-9pm
• We are open 7 days a week, looking to fill 3-5 shifts a week
• The season ends in the beginning of October and starts back up in mid-May

Core Responsibilities
• Excellent Customer Service skills
• Helping members dock in and out of the slips
• Preparing boats for usage and end of day closure procedures
• Maintaining and cleaning the boats and its supplies

General Requirements
• A proactive work ethic
• Dependable and willing to be a team player
• Strong verbal communication skills with a focus on customer service

We started here in 2006 (yes, we’ve been around for 18 years!) and Southpoint Marina is still our flagship location. No matter where you live in Rochester, you’re probably not more than 15 minutes from one our boats here. Cruise, tube, ski, swim or catch the sunset.

Towing For Watersports There's more to towing a skier than meets the eye. Make your day on the water fun and safe with these essential skills.

Going fast is fun, but there are limits! In New York State, vessel speed is generally limited to 5 mph when within 100 feet of the shore, a dock, pier, raft, float, or anchored boat. On some specific bodies of water the 5 mph limit has been extended to 200 or even 300 feet. Local ordinances may further limit top speed, limit speed in specific areas, or set speed limits that differ for daytime and nighttime. Boat safely!

Stay safe this holiday week! Before the kids have the time of their lives tubing behind the boat, make sure they are wearing properly fitted PFDs that are suitable for water sports. Falling off is half the fun!

Information and Regulatory Marks
These orange-and-white Aids are used to alert vessel operators to various warnings and regulations.
Diamond = Danger. A hazard such as rocks or wrecks.
Circle = Restricted operations. Most often seen locally as a speed restriction or “no wake zone.”
Diamond with a Cross = Boats are prohibited in this area. Most often seen locally to mark designated swim areas.
Square = Information, for example, gas dock, marina or boat ramp.

Rules of the Road
Lateral Markers are the red and green markers that indicate the right and left sides of the channel. Boaters should always remember the old adage “red right returning”. This means that the red buoys mark the right side of the channel whenever we are returning from sea or proceeding toward the head of navigation. The reverse would be true when heading back out to the sea. Always remember to pass between the red and green buoys (Red and Green - Stay Between) in order to ensure safe water deep enough to permit navigation. Want to get into boating, but have no boat handling experience? No problem. Our members receive on-the-water training to ensure that they can safely and confidently operate the boats in our fleet. Our orientation trainers are US Coast Guard licensed captains and Certified National Safe Boating Council on-the-water instructors. We will have you driving and docking the boat in no time.

All boat operators must comply with the rules of the road. The rules use the terms “Stand On” and “Give Way.”The Stand On vessel should hold course and speed. The Give Way vessel should take early and substantial action to keep clear and avoid collision. Here are the three most common situations encountered on the water and the way to handle them. Who needs a NYS Boater Safety Certificate to operate a power boat?
Those born on or after Jan. 1, 1978 will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2024.
ALL motor boat operators, regardless of age, will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2025.
ALL personal watercraft operators must successfully complete an approved boating safety course before they can operate a PWC on any waters of New York.

We are currently seeking someone to work Tuesday and Thursday mornings from approximately 8am – 11am. Our boats are located at the docks of Seneca Lake Park. Below is a quick listing of the main responsibilities of the position.

• Fueling Boats
• Checking boat equipment and fluid levels
• Cleaning of boats
• Ensuring supplies on boats are complete and stowed
• Reporting of damage or missing supplies
