Spotlighting some of our favorite new designs of 2022! ✨💡

We’ve been loving the continued trend towards warm metal finishes, and this year’s new designs feature a lot of gold and brass. Striking new black finishes also feature very prominently.

Another trend we love is incorporating natural forms and materials into designs. The Agave collection by Hinkley Lighting & Fredrick Ramond is a beautiful example, but we also love the more understated approach seen in Hudson Valley’s White Plains collection and Hubbardton Forge’s Eos collection. White Plains features a classic white linen shade with a rattan-wrapped brass stem for a touch of natural warmth, while Eos features a thick clear glass shade inspired by a drop of dew.

As January flies by, we're checking in with some news on our Wellesley showroom!

New delays related to COVID have impacted all of us, including our timeline for opening. We are working as quickly as we can while keeping our team & project partners safe, and our current schedule will now have us open by the end of Q1. We are so excited to share this new showroom with you!

Our lighting specialists continue to be available for lighting consultations, either virtually or in person at our System 7 Experience Center in Boston. And - as always - please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or there's a lighting project we can help you with!

We are thrilled to announce that Back Bay Shutter Company and The Boston Shade Company are now one! The finest in shades and the finest in shutters, with the additional support and expertise from our combined team. What's not to love?

Back Bay Shutter & Boston Shade - now together as the window treatment division of System 7. Look for a Back Bay Shutters display coming to the Experience Center this summer!

Linear LED lighting is often thought of for undercabinet lighting or cove lighting, but it also shines in more visible applications. We love the way it accentuates the beams and provides ambient light in this home gym that Christine worked on with Interiology Design Co.!

Happy Holidays from the System 7 family!

As 2021 draws to a close, we’re grateful for the vibrant communities in which we live and work, and for the talented and hardworking design and building professionals we have the honor of collaborating with every day.

Knowing that helping our neighbors in need strengthens the places we call home, we’re celebrating the holidays this year with meaningful donations to two great organizations: Beverly Bootstraps in Beverly, MA, and Heat of The Kitchen in San Francisco, CA. Both of these organizations do important work, and we’re proud to support them.

We hope you and your family have a safe and restful holiday. Here’s to 2022!

An update on our new Wellesley showroom:

Progress continues, and we’re getting a little closer to opening every week. Unfortunately, however, we will have to wait a bit longer before we can share this space with you.

This summer, we were optimistic about opening this fall. Now, as fall quickly becomes winter, we are still waiting for key components to arrive. Like many others, we are not immune to supply chain issues, and -- since we opted not to purchase our own shipping containers -- we'll have to wait patiently for product to make its way across land and sea.

Our new target for opening is late January, fingers crossed. We'll keep you in the loop as the date approaches. In the meantime, remember that our lighting specialists are still available by appointment for consultations. You can meet with a specialist virtually or in person at our System 7 Experience Center in Boston.

We are so excited to share a first look at our new Wellesley showroom! Over the past few weeks, we've been hard at work transforming this space with the help of our terrific partners at Cafco Construction .

This is just a glimpse of what's to come... this showroom takes all the best elements of our Waltham showroom and distills them into an immersive, boutique space. We cannot wait to share it with you!

As of this week, we've officially moved out of Waltham and construction is underway in Wellesley! We're taking so many good memories with us from our Waltham showroom, of the many hours we spent collaborating with you on your renovation and new construction projects. We cannot wait to share our new boutique showroom in Wellesley with you this fall!

Question: How can I meet with a lighting specialist while the Wellesley showroom is under construction?

Answer:
As we transition from one space to the other, our lighting specialists will be available for virtual consultations. In-person consultations will also be available by appointment at our System 7 Experience Center in the Boston Design Center.

At the Experience Center, we have a curated collection of decorative lighting, featuring favorite brands like Hubbardton Forge and Sonneman. We also have an architectural lighting studio with a display of the latest LED recessed and linear lighting.

Question: How will the new boutique showroom differ from the Waltham showroom?

Answer:
Our Wellesley showroom will differ from the Waltham showroom in a few ways, including:
•We will show a smaller selection of decorative lighting that will rotate more frequently, illustrating important lighting concepts and highlighting new and innovative styles.
•Home technology such as lighting and shading controls will be integrated into the space. For example, you will be able to control the light fixtures via keypads and iPads.
•All the fixtures on display will be dimmable so you can better understand how they might look in your home.
•We will have an immersive Ketra display that will allow you to experience Human-Centric Lighting, and see how tunable LED lighting can transform your living space.
•A reimagined architectural lighting display will demonstrate techniques such as wallwashing and accent lighting. You will be able to see how a fixture looks in the ceiling, as well as how it makes a space feel.
•Our new Wolfers ecommerce site, also launching this fall, will be tied closely to the showroom, and will complement the in-person experience.
•All fixtures available for purchase at the showroom will be shipped directly to your home.

As we begin our transition out of our Wolfers Waltham showroom and start to build our space in Wellesley, we are going to share some common questions we have been receiving!

Question: How is lighting evolving?

Answer: In a traditional lighting showroom, the focus is showing as many light fixtures as possible in various shapes, sizes, and styles. This model no longer fits today’s world, with the increasing number of options available and the increasing convenience of online shopping.

Attempting to browse hundreds or thousands of options in person leads to visual chaos in the showroom and a challenging shopping experience. Online, it’s much easier to filter and compare the options to meet your preferences and needs.

However, there’s still a need for guidance when selecting a light fixture, and some aspects of lighting really need to be seen in person. This is the new role of the lighting showroom. Rather than attempting to show a large number of fixtures, a lighting showroom can be an educational space where you can see how different kinds of lighting make a space feel, and what different options like finishes and glass look like. Lighting specialists can help you navigate the possibilities both in the showroom and online, and help you select the right lighting for your home.
