ENERGY EQUITY
Equity is a core value of the Network. Our services help advance energy equity and alleviate disproportionate energy burdens for low-income households and communities of color.
Did you know that energy burden is higher for rural populations than non-rural populations? services like and can help rural families by lowering utility bills and making homes more energy efficient.
Low-income families are more likely to live in housing with heating problems and inadequate insulation. measures like furnace repair and wall and attic insulation help promote energy equity by lowering utility burdens and making energy more affordable for families.
A clean energy transition must allow for equity in an energy system that currently disadvantages low-income consumers and communities of color.
Communities of color experience energy insecurity more than other groups. Many Agencies are helping to improve energy equity by providing services and utility assistance that make energy more affordable.
School Is In Session!! The education calendar year is well underway for our primary and secondary students. Which means this is a great time to serve as a tutor to adults eager to learn English.

A customer wanted let Vern & Crew and CDCAC how grateful and thankful she is for all the Weatherization Work that has been done to her home. She was just overjoyed that it has made her home safer, healthier, and more energy efficient, and has made it feel like a home she can live in for many years to come. She wants administration and the Department of Commerce to know how grateful she is that the Weatherization Program is in place and is supported by all the agencies involved, and can’t express enough gratitude for CDCAC and the Weatherization Crew.

Our Story
Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council was created in 1965 as part of America’s War on Poverty. We are a private not-for-profit corporation serving the residents of Chelan and Douglas Counties. Our purpose is to assist individuals and families to move out of poverty into a lifestyle that promotes a safer and healthier living environment, leading to self-sufficiency. Community Action Council works with other social service agencies, public agencies, community organizations, businesses and churches to coordinate services.
The purpose of the CDCAC is to stimulate a better focusing of all available state, local, private, and federal resources to the goal of enabling low-income families and individuals of all ages, in rural and urban areas, to attain the skills, knowledge, and motivation to secure the opportunities for them to become self-sufficient.
Our programs include Energy Assistance, Weatherization, Intermountain AmeriCorps, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, the Literacy Council, an asset-building program that offers tax preparation and financial education training, and the Food Distribution Center that delivers food to twelve area food banks in Chelan & Douglas counties. We also own and operate 50 units of affordable housing and manage the Wenatchee Community Center.
