Your sciatic nerve originates from nerve roots in your low back and travels down both legs. "Sciatica" is a condition that many patients experience that causes pain to radiate down your spine and into your legs. This is the result of a damaged, “pinched”, or compressed sciatic nerve.

The pain is described as dull, achy, sharp, like “pins and needles” or similar to electric shocks. Other symptoms associated with sciatica include burning, numbness and tingling sensations. Sciatic nerve pain varies in intensity from mild to severe, and frequency may range from occasional to constant. The onset is generally gradual and not necessarily associated with a previous event. Sciatica is also known as radiating or referred pain, neuropathy, or neuralgia.

Chiropractic adjustments can help reduce the pressure on the sciatic nerve by restoring proper joint motion around the nerve roots in your low back which can lead to a reduced need for pain medications and a reduction in overall pain. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy can also help to reduce sciatic nerve pain by working to heal compressed disc spaces and open up the areas where your nerve roots exit your spine. SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY

Check out this article to see how Spinal Decompression Therapy has not only been shown to help with spinal disc related low back pain, but how it has also been shown to restore some of the disc height that can be lost with injuries and degenerative changes in the spine.

"Low back pain decreased from 6.2 (± 2.2) to 1.6 (± 2.3, p < 0.001) and disc height increased from 7.5 (± 1.7) to 8.8 (± 1.7) mm (p < 0.001). There was a statistically significant correlation between the increase in disc height and a reduction in pain (r = 0.36, p = 0.044), with a 1 mm increase in disc height being associated with a reduction of 1.86 on the 11-point verbal rating scale. No adverse events were reported during the treatment period."
