This was one of the more challenging and fun projects I've worked on to date. This geodesic dome roof was in rough shape. We had to remove and replace much of the decking while re-insulating the individual sections. We also added reinforcement where needed, added some venting, and re-framed a couple of the skylights. Then the design phase began with deciding how to ensure the roof performed properly while making it as aesthetically unique as possible. It was a true collaboration as I, the homeowner, Jason, and our foreman discussed the possibilities and came to a consensus about how to attack the project. Our talented crew then put the plan into action and this is the beautiful result.

After our latest large storm, you'll start to see an ice shelf build up on your gutters, and then dangerous icicles start forming below. This is a sign of ice dams. Public Service Announcement.

I work with insurance companies all day, every day. I've seen many people have to come up with a lot of money after a weather-related claim. Make sure that you have full replacement value on your policy! You'll also want the "code upgrade" and "matching clause" on your homeowner's insurance policy. And go big. Like 50k.

Examples of the reason you will regret not having these.
1) Your house gets damaged by weather (hail/wind) and you have older siding/roofing. If one side of the house is damaged, you will be able to get the other sides replaced as well if there is no longer matching siding/roofing made with a matching endorsement. 2) If you have an older farmhouse that has spaced roof decking, the insurance will pay for new sheeting with the code upgrade endorsement. A solid surface is needed when a new roof is installed.

Insurance companies are finding more and more ways to not pay you when you need them. Make sure that your policy pays for not only what have, but what you will need to replace it. The few extra dollars in premiums will save you thousands when you need to file that claim. And pay for the lower deductible.
