Ironically, the piece most people have connected with is titled “Disconnected.”
This diptych illustrates my struggle to balance my art practice and motherhood. I am constantly trying new methods to serve both roles, yet nothing feels quite right.
This composition was originally intended for one panel. But dividing it into two felt like the best way to communicate the lack of connection I feel within myself.
What’s the paper texture in my backgrounds?
I use pages from an old encyclopedia of flowers. I often coordinate the text with the theme of my work or the featured flowers. For this piece in particular, the word “layering” was too perfect not to use as the title.
Learn more about my work ✨TONIGHT✨ during our Instagram live at 5 pm!
Why do I use concrete as canvas? Quick answer: I’m very inspired by street art and graffiti, but l’m not hardcore enough to go around tagging walls. So I create my own!
People often ask if my pieces are extremely heavy, but surprisingly they are not! The cement layer is fairly thin, so there’s not a whole lot of weight that adds up.
Hello! 👋 My name is Emily Mullet and I am taking over Instagram this week! 🎉 My work is on display at now through 11/3. Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing how and why I make my art. 🖼️
✨About Me✨
🎨 My art mediums range from painting and ceramics to graphic design. For The Art Trust show, I used cement as my canvas.
🖥️ My creative career includes product development, set styling, and even modeling (but we won’t talk about that last part 😅).
💃 Exploration and play are an essential part of my art practice. (Hence the many mediums and experiences.)
👶🏼 I’m a full-time momma of an adorable two-year-old, which is where most of my creative energy goes.
🧑🎨 You may recognize me as the face behind and the PXV Art Mag. I believe supporting and uniting my local art community is one of the most important things I can do. (Aside from raising that adorable two-year-old. 😉)
Follow me at to see more of my work and process!
Thank you for following my artist takeover this week! If you haven’t yet, don’t forget to check out the artists’ talk and my instagram live interview. And of course, go check out the show!
Also, thank you to my new collectors who will be bringing home “Confetti Sea” when the show is over. ❤️
Finally, thank you to our curator
the other Layered artists and , and to and everyone at The Art Trust for volunteering their time! It is so wonderful knowing that net proceeds from sales support young artists in our community. ❤️
If you’d like to continue to see more of my work and learn about my upcoming shows, you can follow me .pearson.art .

Hi! It’s .pearson.art again doing this week’s Instagram takeover!
THURDSAY 10/17 I’ll be doing an IG Live with The Art Trust. Eat, Drink and be Artsy will begin at 5:00 EST. Can’t make it live? The reply will be posted here on IG.
Speaking of replays, have you watched our artists’ talk from last Thursday? You don’t want to miss this question and answer session with curator and the Layered artists , and myself.
Hi it’s .pearson.art again doing the artist takeover this week. Let’s talk about layers! Kayla, Emily and myself all use layers in different ways. My own use of layers has evolved over the years. It began in college as I developed my style as an illustrator creating digital collages. I combined photos, magazine cutouts, drawings, and scanned objects to create my work using layers in Photoshop. (Swipe to see examples!)
The concept of layering carried through into my abstract work using acrylics, collage and drawing media. With no undo button, working out the colors and composition directly on the canvas allows layers to build up and create a rich history and depth that I could not achieve if I started with a sketch.
Do you use layers in your work? Comment below and let me know how!

We’ll be mixing up an Empress1908 gin cocktail, “Sunburned Bees Knees” and wrapping up just in time to catch the first pitch. GO PHILLIES!!!⚾️
SOLD! The name of this piece, “Beauty in the Pivot” resonated with the collector. Life is full of changes - some good, some bad. Some planned, some unexpected. How you handle change is what’s important. My parents always reinforced the idea that you can recreate yourself as many times as you need to. You can try something out and switch it up if it doesn’t fit. You don’t know until you try.
So happy this piece found a home during the opening reception of Layered. I hope it brings joy to whatever space it finds itself in.

Hi!! I’m Kayla - one of the artists featured in the newest show Layered. I’m doing an instagram takeover this week and can’t wait to show you some of the behind the scenes. Get excited!!! I had the opportunity to meet some of you at the opening on Friday (yay!) but if you don’t know me, here’s some things you should know about me and my art practice.
I am a full time mama during the day, and I create at night and on weekends (fringe hours).
My studio is my happy place. I’ll share more pictures from this space later this week so stay tuned! 😉
I graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2014. My focus was on non-traditional photography (think dark room manipulation, cyanotypes, etc).
Layered was my first time showing my work in West Chester!
A lot of my work has hidden messages or writing under the layers. Did you notice?!
Say hi, introduce yourself, and please stop into the when you can!
Opens Friday!

A celebration of art by artists with disabilities
The Art Trust at Meridian Bank is pleased to present a curated selection of contemporary art available from Main Line Health’s Consignment Collection of their Annual Art Ability Exhibition. All art is available for sale.
More about the Annual Art Ability Exhibition:
Sunday, November 3, 2024 – Sunday, January 26, 2025
Art Ability is dedicated to creating community awareness of people with disabilities, and encouraging people with disabilities to reach beyond their limitations and find fulfillment and inspiration through art.
Annual exhibition and sale-
Art Ability has as a primary focus as an international, twelve-week juried exhibition and sale of art and fine crafts that features work by artists with physical and related cognitive disabilities, and hearing and visual impairments. Participating artists express their creativity through painting, photography, sculpture, fiber arts, stained glass, jewelry and fine crafts. Through these creative modes of expression, artists are able to convey their talent, receive recognition for their work, and often also to further progress in recovering from a life-altering illness or injury.
The event is held every fall. Proceeds of the Art Ability celebration help support Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital patient and community programs.
